This car features rare manual overdrive available April 1959. This car was produced March 18, 1959 - it could be the first model fitted with the option. Only 211 XK150 cars were fitted with manual overdrive - no Lucas!

First Mechanical overdrive fitted to 831963 from Jan 1959 According to Anders Clausager in his book Jaguar XK140/150 in Detail p.214. Total of 211 seems rather high what reference have you

I used Bernard Viart new book Jaguar XK150 explored. It is exclusively targeted on the XK150S. Great illustrations and history. I have ordered Clausager book but seeing how many books he has authored or co- wrote, I may have to question the degree of detail. Thanks for your input and I will follow up.

This XK150S comes to us having been particularly well equipped and cared for, featuring the desirable Laycock de Normanville overdrive, an option that transforms the car into an exceptionally capable touring machine. With overdrive engaged, the engine settles into relaxed cruising speeds while still allowing the driver to enjoy the lively character of the four-speed gearbox when desired.

Over the years, the car has proven itself an excellent driver. It is a two-time entrant in the Colorado Grand, one of North America’s most respected vintage touring events, reflecting both the car’s mechanical fitness and its suitability for long-distance driving. In 2021, the Jaguar benefited from extensive mechanical service totaling more than $55,000, including a comprehensive engine rebuild and the installation of an aluminum radiator to enhance reliability during spirited use and extended touring.

Cosmetically, the car presents very well, finished in a striking yet tasteful color combination that suits the graceful lines of the XK150. The Carmen Red paintwork complements the flowing bodywork, while the Biscuit leather interior provides a warm and inviting contrast. The overall presentation reflects careful stewardship and thoughtful maintenance, offering a level of finish that can be shown with pride at regional and mid-tier concours events while remaining approachable enough for regular enjoyment.

With its desirable “S” performance specification, appealing color combination, extensive recent mechanical attention with records on file, and proven touring credentials, this XK150S stands as a particularly well-rounded example of Jaguar’s final and most refined XK roadster. It offers the best of both worlds: a handsome and capable classic that can be displayed with pride yet remains fully sorted and ready to be enjoyed on rallies, tours, and open-road adventures.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
