Finished in classic Black over Red Leather interior and walnut veneer dash and door cappings, this rare FHC is fitted with Jaguar’s special edition “MC” performance option. This offering included a C-type head with larger exhaust valves with inlet and exhaust porting mated to the factory 3442cc DOHC Straight 6 giving the engine 20 additional horsepower for a total of 210hp! The MC option also included a heavier torsion bar suspension, true dual exhaust system, 16” 54-spoke wire wheels, and Lucas fog lamps! This Jaguar is one of only 1,965 examples that delivered in left-hand-drive form from the factory in 1956. It was maintained by its former owner since 1992 and received a very competent restoration by Jon’s Jags here in St. Louis, MO several years ago. More recently in November, the car received a complete brake rebuild with new master cylinder, brake reservoir and lines, wheel cylinders, and brake hoses. The ignition system was serviced with new spark plugs and complete tune up. The radiator was recored and received a new cap, the fuel system was completely flushed and received a new SU electronic fuel pump and fuel filter. Both the front /rear bumpers, bumper guards, license plate holder and lamp were all rechromed and look excellent! New Firestone radial Blackwell tires and tubes were just installed with zero road miles!

The MC models in North America were upgraded with a few options; C-Type cylinder heads (carried over from the XK120 catalogue and producing 210 bhp at 5,750rpms), 2-inch sand-casted H8 Carburettors, heavier torsion bars and twin exhaust pipes.

The Fixed Head Coupé (FHC) shared the Drop Head Coupe's interior trim and rear seat. However, there is more interior space and more legroom in the fixed head coupes. This 1956 Jaguar XK140 MC fixed-head coupe was built on September 29, 1955, and is powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Finished in black over tan leather upholstery, the car is equipped with 16″ wire wheels, Lucas fog lights, air conditioning, and a Moto-Lita steering wheel. The car was purchased by the seller in 2020 and has participated in the 2015 and 2019 California Mille rallies. This XK140 is now offered by the seller with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace certificate, an owner’s manual, a logbook, service records, spare parts, and a clean Florida title in the name of the seller’s LLC.

The car left the factory finished in Cream and was refinished in black under previous ownership. Exterior equipment includes a split windshield, front vent windows, bright trim, dual exhaust outlets, chrome bumpers with overriders, dual fender-mounted side mirrors, and Lucas LR 576 fog lights.

The 16″ chrome wire wheels are secured by two-eared Jaguar knock-offs and are mounted with 185-section Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. A spare is stored under the trunk floor. Braking is handled by drums at each corner, and brake cooling ducts were fabricated and installed under previous ownership. Further service to the braking system under previous ownership included replacing the master cylinder in 2015 and rebuilding the servo in 2017.

The adjustable seats were reupholstered in tan leather and are joined by a matching center console, door panels, and carpets. The car originally left the factory with a Black interior. Appointments include air conditioning with under-dash vents, a cabin heater, a defroster, wind-up side windows, door storage pockets, a fire extinguisher, and Simpson latch-and-link lap belts. Dual Hanhart analog rally timers are mounted on the dashboard.

The Moto-Lita wood-rimmed steering wheel sits ahead of Smiths instrumentation consisting of a reverse-sweep 6k-rpm tachometer, a 140-mph speedometer, an analog clock, an ammeter, and gauges for oil pressure, water temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 60k miles, approximately 2k of which were added under current ownership.

The factory 3.4-liter Type C cylinder head was rebuilt by Valley Friction Materials of North Hollywood, California, in March 2015. Machine work included resurfacing the head, glass-beading the components, refacing the rocker arms, machining the head for seals, and installing valve guides and screw-in studs. The cylinder head was installed on a replacement 4.2-liter block sourced from a 1984 Jaguar XJ6 in 2019. The engine is equipped with dual SU carburetors, tubular headers, an alloy radiator, and a Spal puller fan.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace certificate notes the original colors and a build date of September 29, 1955.

From the seller:

Service records from 2015 document approximately $11,500 in engine-related work. The work included crankshaft machining, cylinder-block resurfacing and honing, balancing of the rotating assembly, and replacement of the piston rings, main bearings, connecting-rod bearings, upper and lower timing chains, gaskets, clutch components, starter motor, and various engine and gearbox seals. A rear-main-seal conversion was also performed at that time. The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate lists the car’s original engine as 3.4-liter unit G5463-8S. The currently installed engine uses a replacement 4.2-liter block sourced from a 1984 Jaguar XJ6 and is therefore not numbers-matching. The replacement block is topped by the Type C cylinder head reportedly original to the car, which was rebuilt in 2015. The Heritage certificate lists close-ratio gearbox JL32247 CR, although the stamping on the installed gearbox has not been independently verified. Additional service records describe replacement or servicing of the fuel pump and fuel filter, as well as removal, cleaning, repair, and relining of the fuel tank. A fuel-pump cut-off switch was also added as a safety measure.

The car has been modified for improved warm-weather and touring use. Records describe installation of a larger air-conditioning condenser, custom refrigerant hoses and fittings, under-dash vents, and a Spal electric puller fan. The cooling-fan and air-conditioning circuits were later rewired with modern relays and sealed 40-amp fuses. Electrical upgrades include a generator-style alternator, or Dynamator, that retains a period appearance while providing increased charging output. Records also note replacement battery cables, a replacement battery, revised fan and air-conditioning wiring, modern relays and fusing, and attention to the ignition and interior-light switches. Period Lucas components remain visible in the engine compartment, including the two-speed windscreen-wiper motor and voltage regulator.

The four-wheel drum-brake system received service under previous ownership that included replacement of the brake master cylinder and steel brake lines, fluid flushing and bleeding, brake-shoe cleaning and adjustment, and inspection of the wheel cylinders and drums. Brake-cooling ducts were also fabricated and installed for rally and touring use. Records additionally note a brake-servo rebuild in 2017. Service records describe inspection and attention to the front and rear suspension, including work involving the rear shocks and leaf springs. The steering rack and front wheel bearings were lubricated, and the clutch linkage was modified and adjusted to improve operation. Additional work included fitting replacement pedal pads and refinishing and resealing the pedal-box cover.

The exhaust system was inspected and adjusted under previous ownership, with records noting tubular headers, replacement clamps, fabrication to prevent interference with the chassis and engine, heat wrapping of the headers, and polishing of the stainless-steel exhaust components. The service file includes documentation of preparation for and follow-up service after the California Mille. Work performed in connection with rally use included fluid changes, ignition timing, carburetor and throttle-linkage adjustments, clutch adjustment, brake service, cooling-system checks, suspension inspection, and general road-event preparation. The car also reportedly participated in the Colorado Grand. The 16″ wire wheels are mounted with 185HR16 Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. Receipts document the purchase of at least two of the tires in 2016. Due to their age, replacement is recommended before extended road use regardless of remaining tread depth.

The sale includes a Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace certificate, owner’s manual, handwritten maintenance and specification logbook, service invoices, parts receipts, and records documenting work performed under prior ownership. The handwritten logbook includes engine, lubricant, tire-pressure, ignition-timing, and electrical-system notes, as well as information regarding the 4.2-liter donor engine.

The car was previously held through an LLC associated with Michel Stern and his wife, actress Lisa Kudrow. Records from their ownership period include service invoices, a handwritten logbook, and documentation relating to the car’s rally and touring history.
