Lot #256598

This 1955 Jaguar XK140 MC is a fixed head coupe that was purchased by the current owner’s grandfather in 1957 and inherited by the owner in 2013. The car is powered by a 3.4-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission and is finished in maroon over gray leather. Features include 16″ wire wheels, Lucas fog lights, and adjustable seats. This XK140 is now offered on dealer consignment with spare parts, the owner’s manual, and an Indiana title, listing it as a 1956 model year.

The car is finished in maroon and features a split windshield, Lucas fog lights, bright trim, dual exhaust outlets, and full-width chrome bumpers with overriders. Paint fading and other blemishes are shown up close in the gallery.

Body-color 16″ wire wheels wear two-eared knockoffs and are mounted with older Lester wide whitewall tires that should be replaced. A spare is stored under the trunk floor, and braking is handled by drums at each corner. The wheel cylinders and brake lines have been replaced since the current owner’s acquisition in 2013.

The adjustable seats are trimmed in gray leather with red piping, and interior appointments include a cabin heater, a defroster, a folding rear bulkhead, and door storage pockets.

The four-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of Smiths instrumentation consisting of a reverse-sweep 6k-rpm tachometer, a 140-mph speedometer, and an ammeter alongside gauges for oil pressure, water temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 32k miles.

The 3.4-liter inline-six features dual SU carburetors and a C-type cylinder head. An oil change was performed and the battery replaced in preparation for the sale.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. There is rust on the underside.

Chassis number S814533 is shown above and is listed as the VIN on the Indiana title with a “5” in place of the “S”. The title lists “Exempt” under the odometer/brand section.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace certificate shows the original colors and drivetrain numbers as well as the build and dispatch dates.

The car is titled using chassis number S814533 with a “5” in place of the “S”. The owner is in the process of getting this corrected, and there may be a delay in transferring the title to the next owner.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
