Delivered new to California in 1956, this XK140 underwent a comprehensive, multi-year ground-up restoration completed by XKS Motorsport of San Luis Obispo, California, approximately in 2007. Finished in Imperial Maroon, a color offered by the factory in the 1950s, and executed to a high standard with an emphasis on reliable touring rather than concours competition, the restoration preserves the XK140's timeless character while incorporating several thoughtfully selected mechanical upgrades.

The chassis was stripped and refinished, while the suspension, drivetrain, and running gear were comprehensively rebuilt or renewed as required. The original four-speed manual transmission was replaced with a five-speed manual gearbox incorporating overdrive, power steering was added, significantly enhancing the car's handling capabilities. Braking performance was improved through the installation of Willwood front disc brakes while retaining the original rear drum brakes, and a stainless-steel exhaust system was fitted. The restoration was completed with chrome 60-spoke wire wheels with knock-off hubs, new tires and tubes, and a matching spare.

The legendary XK inline six-cylinder engine, desirable C-Type cylinder head and carburetors were fully rebuilt. Additional improvements include an oversized aluminum radiator with an electric cooling fan, a new heater core, power steering, and a manual switch for the starter carburetor, all contributing to improved drivability and reliability. Further mechanical enhancements include a replacement wiring harness manufactured to original specification, electronic ignition, an alternator, a high-torque starter, new fuel pumps, and a windshield washer system. New wiper blades were installed in April 2026.

The interior was comprehensively retrimmed with new upholstery, carpeting, and burled walnut veneers, while the luggage compartment was also fully finished. A Moto-Lita wood-rim steering wheel provides a sporting period touch, and a discreetly concealed AM/FM stereo with Bluetooth connectivity and hidden front and rear speakers offers modern convenience without compromising the cabin's classic appearance.

The exterior was refinished in new paint and complemented by restored chrome trim, fender-mounted mirrors, upgraded J-specification headlamps, auxiliary driving lamps, and LED taillamps. Additional touring appointments include seat belts, everyday floor mats, and a trickle charger quick-connect lead discreetly mounted beneath the right front fender.

A well-executed restoration of a desirable XK140 FHC, this Jaguar has covered fewer than 4,000 miles since its completion and has been thoughtfully prepared for enthusiastic touring. Combining the marque's legendary performance and elegance with a carefully integrated suite of upgrades that enhance reliability, comfort, and usability for modern motoring, it has also earned numerous Best in Class and Best of Show honors. Beautifully presented and well sorted, it is now offered ready to be enjoyed by its next caretaker.

Accompanying the vehicle is a binder of daily work records documenting the restoration period. This comprehensive record details all work performed — rebuilt, refurbished, replaced, or upgraded — along with the associated costs, and is supplemented by paint and upholstery samples. Note that the fuel gauge is currently inoperable.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
