This matching numbers XK140 Roadster was purchased by the current owner in 1973. After many years of thorough enjoyment, the owner decided to commit to a frame off restoration of the Jaguar. Begun in early 1986, the body-off nut and bolt restoration took over five years to complete and left no part unexamined in the effort to restore the car to original specifications. Mechanically, the car is reported as being in excellent condition. During the restoration the crank was turned and balanced, while the bearings, pistons, rings, chains, sprockets, clutch and stainless exhaust were all replaced. The gearbox, C-Type head and original horns were all rebuilt. The interior was fully redone with an attractive G.W. Bartlett red leather interior and the canvas roadster top was also replaced. Overall, this Jaguar MC appears to have been very well restored with a great attention to detail and original specifications.
The vendor has reported that the engine bay and all brightwork are in excellent condition and are polished regularly. As a testament to the five year restoration, this Jaguar was entered in the 1991 Antique Automobile Club of America competition in Hershey, PA where it was awarded a Senior National First Prize. The owner also reports that the car has been driven only sparingly since 1991 and has always been kept in a heated garage. This Jaguar XK140 MC Roadster has been lovingly maintained and cared for by its owner for over 25 years.
