This 1956 Jaguar XK140 Roadster was acquired by the current owner in 2012 following a refurbishment by Garcia’s Classic Car Restoration of East St. Louis, Illinois, that was completed in October 2011. Work involved a repaint in cream over tan leather upholstery, rust repairs, an engine rebuild, and the installation of a custom-built five-speed manual transmission. Power is provided by a 3.4-liter inline-six equipped with dual SU carburetors and an electronic ignition system. Additional equipment includes a black convertible top, removable side curtains, a tan tonneau cover, 16″ wire wheels, front drum brakes, and a wood-rimmed steering wheel. This XK140 is now offered on dealer consignment in Missouri with service records, an owner’s manual, and a clean Montana title.

The body was disassembled and rust repairs were performed in 2011. Work involved cutting out rusted metal and welding in fabricated patch panels on the front wings, B-pillars, striker post reinforcements, inner boot floor, and rear body mounts. A custom battery tray was also fabricated. Following the metalwork, the tub and body panels were block-sanded and buffed, and everything was repainted in cream. The weatherstripping, window seals, and exterior trim were also replaced. Removable side curtains and a tan tonneau cover are included.

Chrome 16″ wire wheels secured by Jaguar-branded two-eared knock-offs were installed in 2011 and are wrapped in 185-section Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel drum brakes. The suspension and brakes were overhauled in 2011, which included replacing the front and rear shocks, steering rack bellows, splined hubs, wheel bearings, front and rear brake drums, wheel cylinders, and brake shoes.

The cabin features bucket seats trimmed in tan leather along with color-coordinated door panels and carpets. The interior kit was installed by Garcia’s Classic Car Restoration in 2011, which involved fabricating new seat foam, gluing interior pieces, and restoring and repainting the seat frames. Appointments include a dashboard-mounted rearview mirror, lap belts, a heater, a passenger grab handle, and a custom shift knob. The turn signal switch, heater fan rheostat, brake light switch, and wiper motor were also replaced during the build.

The wood-rimmed four-spoke steering wheel features a Jaguar center crest and sits ahead of centrally mounted Smiths instrumentation including a 140-mph speedometer, a reverse-sweep 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset analog clock, and auxiliary gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, amperage, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 2,500 miles. Total mileage is unknown.

The 3.4-liter inline-six was rebuilt by Garcia’s in 2011. Work included machining the block, head, and oil pan, as well as replacing the intake and exhaust valves, camshaft bearing, harmonic balancer, and drive pulley. The dual SU carburetors feature wire-mesh pancake-style air cleaners and were overhauled at that time. The radiator and heater core were cleaned and pressure tested, and the starter and generator were refurbished. The fuel system was overhauled by replacing the fuel tank, sending unit, filler tube, and custom-fabricated steel fuel lines. An electronic ignition system was also installed.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a custom-built TRJA-90001 five-speed manual transmission that was installed in 2011. The installation required fabricating a custom transmission tunnel, modifying the floorboards, and fitting a replacement bellhousing cover. The clutch throwout fork, pivot shaft, pedal bar, and linkages were altered at that time, and the clutch tube and friction disk were machined. The exhaust system was also replaced during the build.
