Finished in elegant Imperial Maroon, a factory color offered by Jaguar during the 1950s, this highly attractive XK140 Drophead Coupé is the beneficiary of a comprehensive, multi-year restoration completed approximately twenty years ago by respected marque specialists XKS Motorsport of San Luis Obispo, California. Executed to a notably high standard, the work emphasized reliability, drivability, and long-distance touring capability while preserving the model's unmistakable character and period charm.
The restoration encompassed a thorough refurbishment of the chassis, suspension, drivetrain, and running gear, with components rebuilt, renewed, or upgraded as required. The legendary XK six-cylinder engine and carburetion system were comprehensively rebuilt and enhanced with a high-capacity aluminum radiator, electric cooling fan, electronic ignition, alternator, high-torque starter, replacement fuel pumps, and a correct-specification wiring harness. Additional improvements include power steering, a new heater core, and a manual starter-carburetor switch, all contributing to improved usability in modern driving conditions.
Further mechanical upgrades include a 3-speed automatic transmission sourced from a Jaguar XK model, replacing the original 2-speed Borg-Warner unit and incorporating a floor-mounted selector. Braking performance benefits from Wilwood front and rear disc brakes, while a stainless-steel exhaust system and chrome 60-spoke wire wheels with knock-off hubs complete the package. New tires, tubes, and a matching spare wheel were fitted, and new wiper blades were installed in April 2026.
The beautifully restored interior features renewed upholstery, carpeting, and rich burled walnut veneers throughout, complemented by a Moto-Lita wood-rim steering wheel. Modern conveniences have been discreetly integrated, including a concealed AM/FM stereo with Bluetooth connectivity and hidden speakers. Exterior enhancements include restored brightwork, J-specification headlamps, auxiliary driving lamps, LED taillamps, fender-mounted mirrors, and a renewed convertible top with matching rear window.
Having traveled fewer than 4,000 miles since completion, this well-sorted XK140 has earned numerous Best in Class and Best of Show awards while remaining ideally suited for spirited touring. Accompanying the vehicle is a binder of daily work records documenting the restoration period. This comprehensive record details all work performed — rebuilt, refurbished, replaced, or upgraded — along with the associated costs, and is supplemented by paint and upholstery samples. Note that the fuel gauge is currently inoperable. Beautifully presented and well sorted, it is now offered ready to be enjoyed by its next caretaker.
