This 1955 Jaguar XK140 SE roadster was completed on October 14, 1955 and distributed to the US through Charles Hornburg Jaguar of Los Angeles, California. The car underwent a refurbishment during the 1990s and was acquired by the current owner approximately a decade ago. Power is supplied by a replacement 3.4-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive, and the car is finished in maroon with a tan soft top over a matching leather interior. Work carried out during current ownership included rebuilding the SU carburetors, refreshing the interior, replacing the soft top, and installing front disc brakes. This XK140 roadster is now being offered on consignment by the selling dealer with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, service records, refurbishment photos, and a clean Ohio title.
The body was removed from the frame and repainted its factory shade of Maroon during the refurbishment in the 1990s. A replacement tan soft top was installed during current ownership, and additional equipment includes a rear luggage rack, Lucas fog lamps, and chrome trim, bumpers, and a driver’s side-view mirror.
The polished 16” wire wheels feature knock-off hubs and are wrapped in Coker Classic tires. Front disc brakes were added by the current owner, and the master cylinder was replaced in 2018 along with the rear wheel cylinders.
The car was trimmed in Biscuit leather from the factory and was refreshed by the current owner. Lap belts have been added for both front occupants.
A black four-spoke steering wheel fronts a wood-trimmed dashboard that shows cracking in the finish. Smiths instrumentation includes a reverse-sweep 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset analog clock, a 140-mph speedometer, and auxiliary gauges for water temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage. The five-digit odometer shows just over 4k miles, though total mileage is unknown.
Power is supplied by a replacement 3.4-liter inline-six that features an upgraded aluminum radiator, an electric fan, and dual SU carburetors that were rebuilt in July 2020. The fuel tank, sending unit, and valve cover gaskets have also been replaced during current ownership. The rear wheels are driven through a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate lists the manufacture date of October 14, 1955, as well as the original colors and powertrain numbers.

Lot #242298
This 1955 Jaguar XK140 SE Drophead coupe was completed on October 14, 1955, and distributed to the US through Charles Hornburg Jaguar of Los Angeles, California. The original owner purchased the car new in San Francisco and kept it for over 30 years, initiating a restoration in the 1990s. Power is supplied by a 3.4-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive, and the car is finished in maroon over biscuit leather. The car was acquired by the current owner on BaT in September 2020, and work under current ownership has included repairing the horn, changing the engine oil and transmission fluid, flushing the brake fluid, and replacing the rear brake cylinders and heater components. This XK140 Drophead coupe is now offered on dealer consignment with a custom-made tan top boot, a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, service records, refurbishment photos, and a clean North Carolina title that lists the car as a 1956 model year.
The 16” wire wheels were chrome-plated in the 1990s, feature knock-off hubs, and are wrapped in Coker Classic tires. Front disc brakes were added under prior ownership, and the rear brake cylinders were replaced and the brake fluid flushed under current ownership.
The cabin was trimmed in Biscuit leather from the factory and was subsequently refurbished by Paul Michael Interiors. Lap belts have been added for both front occupants, and a wood-burl shift knob featuring a Jaguar logo was installed under current ownership.
The rear wheels are driven through a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive.
A reproduction data plate has been installed. Cylinder head stamping number G 5321-8 matches the number stamped on the engine block, the reproduction data plate, and the Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate. Photos of all of these can be viewed in the gallery of the previous auction.
