The example offered here, chassis S 837996, was originally completed on December 29, 1958. According to available records, the car was delivered new to its first owner in Mill Valley, California, where it began life in an elegant specification of cream over a red interior with a black canvas top.
In 2007 the Jaguar was acquired from Hyman Ltd. by a subsequent owner who embarked on a comprehensive restoration with the goal of returning the car to like-new cosmetic and mechanical condition while subtly improving drivability. The work was carried out by respected specialists, including a full engine rebuild by Bill Terry, with a detailed file of receipts documenting the process.
As part of the restoration, the car was refinished in a Cotswold Blue over a beautifully trimmed tan leather interior, complemented by a tan canvas convertible top. The result of the restoration is a charming XK150, with deep, lustrous paintwork that highlights the flowing lines of the XK150's body. Chrome and brightwork are beautifully presented, while the car rolls on chrome wire wheels secured with knock-off hubs, completing the classic Jaguar sporting appearance.
Under bonnet detailing is excellent, and the car features a period-correct 3.4-litre XK150 engine paired with a Tremec five-speed manual transmission. This thoughtful upgrade dramatically enhances the driving experience, providing smoother shifting and more relaxed cruising capability while maintaining the character of Jaguar's legendary inline six. A 3.54:1 rear axle ratio further contributes to the car's excellent road manners. Lastly, a tool roll, jack, and knock-off hammer accompany the car.
The result is a Jaguar that performs as beautifully as it presents. The engine starts readily, settles into a smooth idle, and delivers strong, responsive power. On the road, the XK150 feels composed and capable, making it an ideal companion for touring events, spirited weekend drives, or relaxed open-air motoring.
