Lot #231085
This 1956 Jaguar XK140 MC Drophead Coupe was built on November 9, 1956 and dispatched to North America via Jaguar Cars of New York. It reportedly remained with its original owner until 1994, when it was relocated by plane to Switzerland. The car underwent a mechanical refurbishment in the UK between 2020 and 2021, including rebuilds of the engine, transmission, and rear end. After being brought back to the US in 2023, it participated in the California Mille and 2023 Pebble Beach Tour d’Elegance and won a Second in Class award at the 2023 San Marino Motor Classic in California. The car is powered by a 3.4-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive and is finished in Pastel Blue over red leather upholstery. Equipment includes a C-Type cylinder head, dual SU carburetors, a beige soft top, body-color 16″ wire wheels, driving lights, fender-mounted mirrors, wood interior trim, and adjustable seats. This XK140 was acquired by the selling dealer in 2024 and is now offered in Virginia with a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate, service records, JCNA judging sheets, awards, spare parts, historical photos, and a clean Arizona title listing the car as a 1954 model year.
The body came finished from the factory in Pastel Blue and features a beige soft top with a zip-down rear window, a tan soft top boot, a split windshield, auxiliary lights, fender-mounted mirrors, and chrome bumpers with overriders. Wear is noted on the soft top and there is bubbling on the tops of the front fenders. Other blemishes are shown up close in the gallery.
The 16″ wire wheels were repainted to match the body in 2020, and they are mounted with Dunlop Road Speed RS5 tires. A full-size spare is stored under the trunk floor, and braking is handled by drums at each corner. The wheel cylinders were replaced in 2020, and the brake master cylinder was rebuilt in 2021.
The seats are trimmed in red leather, and interior appointments include a cabin heater, crank windows, a dash-mounted rearview mirror, and door-panel storage pockets.
The four-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of Smiths instrumentation consisting of a reverse-sweep 6k-rpm tachometer, a 140-mph speedometer, and an ammeter alongside gauges for oil pressure, water temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 48k miles, approximately 100 of which were added by the selling dealer.
The 3.4-liter inline-six featured dual SU carburetors and a C-Type cylinder head from the factory. The engine was rebuilt, including the installation of Mahle pistons and ACL bearings, by CKL Developments of East Sussex, United Kingdom, in 2020. The clutch was also replaced at that time.
Cylinder head stamping G6411-8S and a corresponding number is listed on the chassis plate as well as the Heritage Trust certificate.
The four-speed manual transmission with overdrive was rebuilt along with the rear differential in 2021.
The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate lists factory colors and identification numbers along with a build date of November 9, 1956, and distribution through Jaguar Cars New York.
The car is titled using engine number G64118S. The plate lists the chassis number as A818123DN, while the stamping S818123DN appears on the frame.
