This 1951 Jaguar XK120 roadster is believed to have undergone a repaint in red and an interior re-trim in tan upholstery as part of a refurbishment completed prior to the current owner’s acquisition in 1998. The replacement 3.4-liter inline-six is noted to have been rebuilt at a cost of over $50k in 2015, while recent recommissioning work is said to have involved replacing the battery, brake master cylinder, and tires along with performing a tune-up. The engine is fitted with dual SU carburetors and paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Further equipment includes tri-bar headlights, auxiliary lights, and 16″ steel wheels along with a split front windshield and a tan convertible top. This XK120 roadster is now offered at no reserve by the seller on behalf of the owner with a clean Illinois title in their name.
The car is believed to have been repainted red prior to the current owner’s acquisition. Tri-bar headlamps are accompanied by a fog light and driving light up front, and further details include a split windshield and a tan convertible top as well as fender-mounted mirrors and front and rear bumperettes.
The red-finished 16″ steel wheels wear Jaguar-branded hubcaps and are mounted with Firestone whitewall tires. The car was factory equipped with an independent front suspension with telescopic-type hydraulic shock absorbers as well as semi-elliptical rear leaf springs and Girling hydraulic rear shock absorbers. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel drums. The brake master cylinder and tires were reportedly replaced in preparation for the sale.
The re-trimmed cabin features bucket seats with tan leather upholstery complemented by color-coordinated door panels and carpets. Amenities include a dashboard-mounted rearview mirror, a passenger-side grab handle, and door-mounted storage pockets.
The four-spoke steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation including a 140-mph speedometer and a reverse-sweep 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset analog clock as well as auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 77k miles, approximately 5k of which were added under current ownership.
The seller tells us that the replacement 3.4-liter DOHC inline-six in this car was rebuilt at a cost of over $50k in 2015. The engine breathes through dual SU carburetors with pancake-style filters. Recent maintenance following a period of storage is said to have involved replacing the battery and changing the oil and coolant as well as performing a tune-up.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.
