Car now said to be in Waynesboro, Virginia.

    Sellers description:
This beautiful black plate car is being offered as a totally ready to go, wonderful vehicle. We have restored and owned over 40 XK120's, and this is without a doubt, the best driving XK I have ever been in. The clutch is smooth and soft, and the transmission shifts like butter. Engine is incredibly smooth and powerful, with no smoke, no noises, and excellent oil pressure achieving 185 degrees, and then staying there like a rock. This car has obviuosly never been left outside in a field. There is a tremendous amount of parts on this car that are original and excelelnt. The engine bay is beautifully detailed and porcelain on the exhaust manifolds looks to be original and excellent. The original data plate matches the engine number, and it would appear there has never been any accident damage, further verified by the excellent fit of the bonnet, doors, and trunk. This car is fitted with the original spats, which creates a swoopy body design that has been imitated, but never equalled. Just closing the doors lets you know how incredibly solid and how good this car is. Turn the key, and it does not even go over a full turn before it fires off and idles like a kitten. Everything electrical works on the car, and I don't know of anything I would do to improve this. An extremely wonderful sorted out car that I would feel very comfortable driving on a daily basis, and i don't say that lightly. The car has both side curtains and soft top, as well as a full set of tools, and all jack, jack handle, coach key, and even original tire pump all clipped in their original places. A more complete XK120, I have never seen! This is the type of car that you could purchase, and with confidence drive across the country to take home. We are very pleased to offer this. If you go to our website, www.GassmanAutomotive.com, you will see the many Jaguar restorations we have completed, including several alloy cars, and 2 XK120 coupes, one of which set a world's record at the RM Auction in Monterey. We are highly regarded amongst the XK world, with JCNA wins, Amelia Island entry, and Hilton Head entry. While we did not do the restoration on this car, we would be very pleased to say we did. Black plate is included with the car. The values of these cars have started an upswing at a steep level since February of 2013, with no end in sight. While Hagerty shows a number 1 car at $155,000, I am aware of multiple cars in the private sector that have sold for much greater. The 1951 XK120 Coupe with spats and steel wheels that we restored on our website brought over $195,000 7 years ago. Many of these cars are out there, but very few are this good. Buy with complete confidence from a well known Virginia dealer, #0727, who has worked very hard to achieve the reputation we have.

    Lot #221732

This 1950 Jaguar XK120 roadster was initially delivered to Cavalier Motor Cars in Los Angeles, California, and would spend most of the next five decades under California-based ownership. The car underwent periods of refurbishment work and was judged at various Jaguar Club of North America events between 1987 and 1994, earning scores over 99 points. Finished in Birch Grey over a red and gray interior, the car is powered by a 3.4-liter inline-six linked with a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes dual SU carburetors, a black convertible top and top boot, a split front windshield, chrome bumpers and bumperettes, front driving light, 16″ steel wheels, lap belts, and Smiths gauges. Acquired by the seller in 2016, this XK120 roadster is now offered with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, service records, a tool roll, and a Virginia title in the seller’s name listing the car as a 1951 model.

The car is fitted with a black soft top, black tonneau and side curtains with stowage bag. Other details include a split front windshield, front driving lights, chrome front bumpers, and rear bumperettes. There is a hole in the soft top, and work in 2001 involved refinishing the right front fender and repairs to the door. A slat on the front grille was repaired in preparation for the sale.

Steel 16″ wheels wear hubcaps and bright trim rings, and they are mounted with Vredestein Sprint Classic tires, which the seller states should be replaced. Since 2020, the brake drums, wheel cylinders, and ball joints have been replaced.

The cabin houses bucket seats trimmed in red and gray leather, which is complemented by color-coordinated door panels and carpets. Appointments include lap belts, a passenger-side grab handle, door map pockets, and a dashboard-mounted rearview mirror. The seller reports that portions of the leather have been repaired and there is a mismatch in color. The carpets were also re-dyed under current ownership.

The four-spoke steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation including a 140-mph speedometer, a reverse-sweep 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset analog clock, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 15k miles, approximately 2k of which were added under current ownership. The odometer is noted to have been reset during a prior refurbishment.

The 3.4-liter DOHC inline-six features dual SU carburetors and a replacement cylinder head. The ignition system was serviced in preparation for the sale.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.

The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate indicates that the car was built on October 30th, 1950, and lists the factory serial numbers, colors, and equipment.

Records, photos, and judging sheets will accompany the car.

The chassis plate is shown above. The current Virginia title describes the car as a 1951 model, lists the engine number, W23658, as the VIN, and carries a “Not Actual” odometer brand.
