Auction description:

The Monterey Sports and Classic Car Auction 2004, Lot 127

1950 Jaguar XK120 Roadster

ESTIMATE: $60,000 - $80,000

$83,995 USD | Sold

CHASSIS NO: 670333

1999 JCNA Best of the Southwest Winner

Meticulously restored by Mike Wilson’s Restorations, this frame-off, no-expense-spared restoration was completed in 1998 to absolute concours standards. Shortly thereafter, the Jaguar was entered into JCNA competition where it was awarded a 99.91 in Phoenix and a 99.55 in Tucson for a JCNA average of 99.73. This impressive score moved the XK120 into first place for the coveted title of JCNA Best of the Southwest in 1999. Further competitive events continued to reward this exquisite car as it proved to be a multiple award winner in the ensuing months, including a recent trophy at the 2003 Forest Grove Concours in Forest Grove, Oregon. As a driver, this Jaguar is equally competent, performing flawlessly on the 2000 Tenth Annual Copperstate 1000.

Jaguars restored by Mike Wilson are known for their mechanical excellence and meticulous authentic cosmetics, and as this example has just completed its mechanical spring inspection, the owner assures us that there has been no departure from that methodology.

Finished in the classic color combination of British Racing green with biscuit leather interior, this handsome XK120 is fitted with whitewall tires, the factory option dual exhaust and an extremely rare Brooklands steering wheel. Additionally, the Jaguar is sold with its owner’s and mechanic’s manuals, as well as the correct and difficult to find tool roll.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
