Car to be at auction 9/26

cars.bonhams.com/auction/31857/lot/266/1951-jaguar-xk120-roadster-chassis-no-660 ...

1951 Jaguar XK 120 Roadster

Estimate £70,000 - £90,000

Bonhams - Goodwood Revival, Goodwood, UK

19 September, 2026

Lot 266

Registration no. LXK 430

Chassis no. 660424

• One of only 1,175 right-hand drive roadsters built

• Single family ownership for 55 years

• Fresh from a incredibly extensive photographically documented restoration

• Running-in mileage only

"We claimed 120 mph (for the XK 120), a speed unheard of for a production car in those days" - William Heynes, Chief Engineer, Jaguar Cars.

Introduced in 1948, the XK120 was produced until 1954 and would prove to be the most popular of Jaguar's XK series, with 12,078 examples built, of which only 1,175 were right-hand drive roadsters like that offered here. Chassis number '660424' was built on 7th December 1950 and supplied by Henlys of London on 11th January 1951 to Wing Commander Sir Ralph Regnault Millais of the RAF, 5th Baronet of Palace Gate, Kensington and St Ouen, Jersey. (The Millais baronetcy had been bestowed originally on Sir John Everett Millais, the famous artist and founder member of the pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood.) Sir Ralph was a keen racing driver, owning the ex-Henry Seagrave Sunbeam Tiger V12; ex-Lord Howe Bugatti Type 59 GP; and ex-Lord Howe Alfa Romeo 8C Mille Miglia Touring Spider to name but a few!

The XK was ordered in Black with Biscuit and Red leather interior trim and equipped with rear wheel spats and 16″ Black steel wheels with chrome hubcaps. The Jaguar was registered with the London mark 'LXK 430', which it retains today.

In July 1968 the XK was sold to its second owner, London resident Mr Paul Andrews who ran the car for only short time before selling to Mr Richard Bouffard of Surrey in February 1969. The XK would remain in the Bouffard family's ownership for some 55 years. In 2024 the family decided to have 'LXK 430' undergo a complete 'last nut and bolt' photographically documented restoration, which has resulted in the immaculate condition the car enjoys today.

'LXK 430' comes complete with provenance file including an old-style green continuation logbook; Jaguar Heritage Certificate; XK Club confirmation of chassis details; and numerous restoration photographs. There is also a tool kit and pouch.

A rare opportunity to acquire an original UK right-hand drive XK120 roadster in a rare and highly sought-after factory colour combination with wonderful history and fresh from an incredibly detailed restoration with 'running in' mileage only.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
