Sellers description:
1960 Jaguar XK 150 3.8 FHC
s/n S836464, Engine no. VA1128-8
British Racing Green with Parchment Leather
This particular example was completed on the 7th of October 1959, and shipped to its first owner, Virgil W. Wall of Encino, California as a 1960 year model. The current, long term owner purchased the car late 1989 and enjoyed the car for a few years before sending the car to marque experts XK Engineering Limited in the UK for a comprehensive restoration. This work was a frame-off affair that included both the cosmetic and mechanical aspects of the automobile. The relatively straight and solid body was taken down to bare metal before the paint work began. A photo album accompanies the car with a detailed photo essay of the restorative work, which totaled $51,225 between 1992 and 1993.
More recently, a more advanced Pertronix ignition system has been installed, and the twin 6V batteries have replaced with top of the line Optima units. The carburetors have been recently serviced, as have the clutch hydraulics. At this time the fuel gauge is not reading accurately, and the tachometer is not giving a reading, but the remainder of the car is in very good working order.
The repaint was a high quality job, applied to straight panels. Today, there are a handful of minor imperfections associated with age and use, but the car presents very well, even upon critical inspection. The panel match is excellent throughout, with regular gaps and positive door shut on both sides. The window glass and lenses are excellent throughout, as are the emblems. The chrome is in fantastic order, with only very minimal weathering. The car sits on beautifully polished chrome wire wheels, with period correct Lester tires which are in as-new condition.
The interior and trunk were both included in the restorative work, and are very nice. The seats and carpet upholstery show a light patina, whereas the headliner, dash with gauges, and door panels are all excellent.
The engine bay is nicely detailed, and quite correct in terms of finishes and equipment. Present is the often missing window washer bottle, among other original details. The underside is solid, with much restoration work evident. It is clear that this car has primarily been a fair weather driver since the work was completed.
Included with this matching numbers example is the matching chrome spare wheel and tire, correct jack, and wrench, great ownership notes from 1989 onward, The Jaguar Heritage, Certificate, an extra set of keys, an owner's manual, written restoration notes and a fantastic photo album showing pre-restoration, in process, post restoration images of the car, as well as an Jaguar XK series workshop manual.
This is an extremely rare opportunity to acquire a very nice matching numbers 3.8 liter XK150 FHC. This car has been fastidiously owned, and comprehensively restored. The restoration work alone, if performed today, would greatly exceed the asking price.
