Sellers description:
Spectacular matching numbers 1960 Jaguar XK 150 Coupe. This California Black Plate car is totally rust free. One of the first 3.8 litre versions this beauty runs and drives great. This original wire wheel car is very complete. This car has been kept garaged and pampered for the last 20 years. Amazingly the intermediate speed hold works and it even kicks down, which is almost unheard of ! There are no signs of any accident damage and the body is straight with very good paint. The engine starts instantly on the button from cold and pulls smoothly and powerfully through the gears, returning to a nice idle. Oil pressure is 50lbs at 35 mph and over 20lbs at idle with the engine at normal temperature. There is no sign of smoke from the new exhaust tail pipes. There is the common piston noise when the engine is cold but it settles down once fully warmed up. The gearbox is probably one of the best examples I have ever driven. The ride, steering and handling is of a very high standard without noise or fuss. The brakes have had some recent work and feel fine pulling the car up nice and straight, the master cylinder has been replaced with a newer style unit. The car has been repainted a few years back, by a real professional as all chrome and most of the rubber looks to have been replaced at that time. The bumpers and chrome wire wheels are gorgeous. The outer door handles, rear lisc plate housing and front headlight spears could do with replating. The doors open and close nicely and have very good gaps with no sign of dropping that you often see in these cars. The glass is in good shape with all windows opening and closing, the drivers side glass is a little stiff and clicks a bit on the way up – not surprising after 48 years! The hood opens and closes nicely and has decent gaps. The trunk still has the original enamel XK150 badge in excellent condition, it opens and closes nicely but could do with some realignment. There is a good spare in the trunk along with the original grease gun and a jack. The tires have good tread but show some signs of sidewall cracking and should be replaced before any long trips. Also the rear tires are a little too wide and rub the body slightly on right hand turns. The interior has a nice wood dash and has had the seats and door panels recovered in Velour some time back when that kind of thing was popular. The carpet is in very good condition and the side air vents fit nicely with good gaps and work easily. Electrical is in good condition with all gauges, lights, wipers ( two speeds and park), indicators and brake lights working. The headlight dip switch is stiff and the horn does not work. The windshield washer top is missing, but the bracket and glass jar is there. Recent work includes top engine overhaul, new hoses, battery, wipers, temp gauge overhaul. Yes there are some small oil leaks. All the locks (doors, trunk, ignition & glovebox ) work with the two keys supplied. Overall this car represents an increasingly rare opportunity to own an extremely well looked after, very complete, nice driving XK150.
