During the month of August 1971 my dad saw an ad in the local newspaper for a 1961 Jaguar XK150 black FHC (titled as a 1961 but the chassis number 835384 determines the car was built May 1958). We went to look at the car, he purchased it, and drove it home. At the ripe old age of 16 I was allowed to drive the car to high school. One day while driving the car the hood came up and bent back over the top caving the top in, needless to say my dad got a little more than angry about that one. My dad worked on restoring the car but never drove it again. He died of a heart attack at the age of 54 (I am now 51). Many years down the road I purchased a book on XK Jaguars. An article in the book was describing a recently restored XK150, the story went on to say that shortly after the picture of the car was taken for the book, the hood came up on the car and caved the top in, evidently an engineering flaw in the hood release and safety mechanism caused this to be a common occurrence. See dad?.... it wasn't my fault after all. Sometime between the time the car was purchased and the episode with the hood, my dad purchased a 1959 Jaguar XK150 red roadster for parts from Brock's Auto Parts (salvage yard) in Malta, Ohio. My dad and I parted out the roadster. Oh if we had only known. A few years ago I sold the 1961 coupe, that left me with a bunch of parts from a 1959 roadster. I suppose if I had Stanley Steamer parts this would have gotten the attention of Jay Leno, oh well, my dad bought a Jaguar. So now we have here the original vehicle identification plate from the aforementioned 1959 Jaguar XK150 red roadster. I have had many inquires about this information plate. After considerable thought and much deliberation I have decided to put the information plate on eBay and see what happens. I am of the belief from my dealings over the years with Corvettes that if a person has a VIN Plate that a title may be aquired. I honestly do not know if this is the case here or not. I am not trying to deceive anyone. This actually is the original information plate that was removed from the car approximately 35 years ago. By the way, when the car was purchased we received no title. I have no idea the value of this item. If you have any questions, PLEASE ask. In memory of my dad ... Paul Kenneth DeVaughn ...
