A fascinating reference to this car and first owner George F Rolfe in a Road Test report in Sports Illustrated in 1955 in Anders Clausager's new book on 140/150 available from JDHT in UK

I can only add the article was written by John Bentley. I would guess the timing would be around Dec 54 to April 1955

using the reference #11 it is in "Sports Illustrated" 25 April 1955 and for Anders to have quoted it it is almost ceretain he has a copy of the article - I don't think it appears in the Brooklands books of the other series of road test reprints. I certainly would love to see a copy of road test. Do we know who George F Rolfe is?

As per the JDHT certificate for the car, George Rolffe was the first owner. I believe I have every other road test of the 140. Will email Anders in hope of obtaining a copy of the SI test. Just received the 140/150 book the other day and have not had time to thoroughly absorb it & therefore missed the reference. Thanks everyone for your help so far.

Just received copy of Sports Illustrated for 4/25/55. A photo in the article changes the course of the restoration. Apparently the car was delivered with wires painted body color and blackwall tires. Chrome wires and whitewalls will go by the wayside. Anders Clausager sent an email stating only four cars were produced in Cream, Red interior, Fawn hood, C head & overdrive.

Opening bid US $99,000.00 Reserve not met 0 bids, 6 days left in auction, seller 62409, 47k miles, Homosassa, Florida

    Seller's description:

1955 Jaguar XK140 Open Two Seater with MC option and somewhat rare overdrive. Body off restoration completed several years ago. All numbers match the Heritage Certificate. Chassis and suspension powder coated. Stainless steel "sport" exhaust. Solid state voltage regulator and flasher unit. All instruments rebuilt by Nissonger. Interior by BAS. Vrededstein tires. All new correct wiring by Rhode Island Wiring. Evans waterless coolant. New canvas top - rear window was not installed correctly - too low - comes with new insert to reposition if desired. Tool roll is a mix of new and old and is missing box spanners. Car runs beautifully and was used for the road test in the April 25,1955 issue of Sports Illustrated. I have owned the car for almost forty years, I'm in my late 70's and of late it is not driven as much as it should be therefore reluctantly it is time for a new caretaker.
