THIS…. is a very late production, well sorted (with only four caretakers/owners since new; the last two in the same family), high-end driving example, all stock, rust free coveted and highly desirable 1954 Left Hand Drive U.S. delivery Jaguar XK 120 OTS (Open Two-Seater) SE Roadster with approximately 48K original miles (TMU).
The story is that the seller’s father purchased his first Jaguar XK120 OTS SE in 1957 after graduating college. That particular car was only 15 cars from the final XK120 built. The car was eventually sold in 1960 to get married. The car always held a special place with him and with his wife’s blessing, he undertook a search for another XK120 OTS SE in 1999 and eventually became the 3rd owner of this car in August 2000 with approximately 42,600 miles on it. The odometer stopped working sometime around 2010, although it was driven sparingly before and after that point. The car has been driven approximately 3-4K miles with its current owner and the 48,000 miles quoted is believed to be reasonably accurate.
This car was built & dispatched in August of 1954 (the final production month for the XK120’s) – as the 151st car from the final XK120 produced (the last XK120 was chassis #676438). In total 1,847 LHD XK120's were produced in 1954 and 6,436 LHD XK120's were produced between 1951 (the year the SE package was first offered) and 1954. The car spent its entire life from 1954 to 2017 in PA before being relocated to FL.
This is a U.S. delivery car with the optional Special Equipment (SE) Package (unofficially called “M” for Modified in the USA) to Max Hoffman in New York. The car was subsequently delivered to its first owner in Hanover, PA through Foreign Motor Sales out of Harrisburg, PA in November of 1954. The SE Package takes the 3.4L 3442cc 6-cylinder engine form 160HP to 180HP achieved through its ½” higher lift twin overhead camshafts, an 8:1 compression ratio and uprated valve springs. In addition, the SE package included a lightened flywheel, stiffer rear springs, wire wheels with knock-off spinners, and a Burgess dual exhaust system.
All matching #'s car with just four owners from new:
Engine # F4012-8S
Chassis # S676287
Body # F8571
Gearbox # JL24428
The car underwent restoration in the late 1980's under the stewardship of its 2nd owner. The restoration changed body color from Cream with a Fawn top (hood) with a blue interior to its current configuration of a red body with a black interior and top. After having been run sparingly by the sellers’ father who had purchased the car in August 2000 from its 2nd owner (who owned the car since July of 1963), a mechanical refurbishment was commissioned by its current owner in 2022. The mechanical refurbishment was completed by a well-regarded XK restorer near Tampa, FL who is available to validate the work performed.
