1953 Jaguar XK 120
Vehicle to be offered for Auction sale January 14th - 18th, 2015 at Russo and Steele's 15th Annual Scottsdale Arizona Auction.
The restoration began with the purchase of an incredibly rare set of dual-throat SU carbs and manifold manufactured in the 1950's and appearing only on a few race cars such as some of the Lemans Triumphs and the Hughes Kircher Jaguar Special XK 120 engine and chassis with new race body. These dual-throat carb set-ups are essentially three pairs of constant velocity SU carbs, each pair sharing a common float chamber. The former owner purchased the carbs and began searching for a competition XK 120 as a home for them. This XK 120 competition car was discovered at a San Jose, CA junkyard with no title and no known history.
With aspirations to restore the vehicle exactly as it had left the factory and then add the modifications, work began with metalwork done by Tom Boutis of Superior Metalcraft who went to work with his huge English wheeling machine, bending aluminum to re-skin the doors and hood, and getting the hood to fit perfectly. Later he built the metal tonneau cover and headrest to the old specs, and sent the blasted body and chassis to Lees Vintage Vehicles for preliminary bodywork on the main surfaces. After that, he separated the body from the frame he sent them back to Lee Norine for perfect bodywork in every inch, hidden or not. All parts were painted with black Deltron Acrylic Urethane. Dale at Sacramento A-1 Plating polished or plated every bright metal surface to a mirror finish. Even the nuts and bolts got special treatment with gun bluing, heat treatment, or sometimes black oxide with clear satin on top. Replacement bolts, of a type no longer being made, came from Beas Bolts. This car was featured in the Robb Report and the English magazine "Jaguar Quarterly." An issue of each is included in the sale.

1954 JAGUAR XK 120 SE ROADSTER:
--Silver with Red Leather, Red carpeting, Older restoration, Freshly rebuilt engine, 3.4 liter inline 6-cylinder engine, 4-speed gearbox, Rare period racing styling and options.
This is a remarkable example of the coveted SE model in original LHD, famously discovered, restored and modified by noted collector and enthusiast, Lee Troxel. This XK-120 was built on February 5th, 1954 and delivered to distributor Charles Hornburg in Beverly Hills, CA. on February 18, 1954. It was titled to its first owner, Mr. H. Brandi of Ontario, CA. From this point, the history of the car is unclear until circa 2003.
The conception of this 120 SE began with the purchase of an incredibly rare set of dual-throat SU carbs and manifold manufactured in the 1950's and appearing only on a few race cars, such as some of the Lemans Triumphs. These dual-throat carburetors are essentially three pairs of constant velocity SU carbs, each pair sharing a common float chamber. Troxel then set out to find an XK for restoration. He discovered this XK-120 SE in abandoned form in the California desert, someplace west of Blythe. His thought was to restore the XK with a vision of period racing/performance enhancements. So, the project began. With the body off the chassis, metalwork was performed by Tom Boutis of Superior Metalcraft, who took to task re-skinning all hinged panels in aluminum as per an Alloy XK-120. The prep and paint for the body were entrusted to specialist, Lee Norine for perfect bodywork. At this time, the undercarriage and suspension parts were painstakingly painted and detailed throughout. Sacramento A-1 Plating polished or plated all bright work to a mirror finish. All hardware on the chassis received special treatment with gun bluing, heat treatment or black oxide with clear satin overlay. Additionally, countless obsolete fasteners and hardware were sourced.
Within the extensive restoration, details such as Brooklands style dual windscreens and rearview mirror, LeMans style fuel filler, leather bonnet strap, as well as a fabricated removable drivers fairing were incorporated into the build. It was completed with a stunning set of Borrani road wheels.
In 2015, the SE was under new ownership and a complete engine and gearbox refresh was performed my Canadian marque specialists, Engineered Automotive. The engine was completely rebuilt to correct SE specification and the gearbox completely overhauled with new bearings and seals throughout. In addition, modifications were made to upgrade the cooling system, the instruments restored and a custom 12-volt alternator was supplied and installed, but made to appear as if the original generator was still present. The entire car was thoroughly nut and bolted and fussy mechanical and cosmetic details were painstakingly addressed to make this XK-120 SE an extremely special Jaguar that cannot be duplicated anywhere near its offered price.
This XK-120 SE represents the very best in build quality and craftsmanship throughout and would be a welcome addition to any collector or collection with focus on vintage rallies or fast road touring. It is among the finest XK-120's available.
Price: $215,000 obo
