This is a 1957 Jaguar XK140 SE Roadster that is a good car to restore. It is mostly complete and matching numbers. VIN # 818979, Engine # G850885. It has been with the previous owner for more than 30 years and it appears to always have been garaged. The body of the car is in good condition. The frame is straight and solid. All the body panels are clean. Interior is complete and out of the car. Dash is missing the speedometer. Engine is complete and turns by hand. Car comes with convertible top frame. Most of the trim and chrome comes with the car. Car rolls for easy transport. Price $32,500. Please visit our website www.meritcars.com for more pictures of this car.

This is interesting the car pictured is of course not a 140 drop head coupe but a Roadster.
Additionally this chassis number 818879 is said to have engine number G8800-8S fitted originally (this engine found its way to Zimbabwe and the Western Australia)
Certainly the engine number quoted G8508-8S is out of sequence ie to early for this DHC chassis number and could be the original engine number for the 140 roadster pictured
I would be interested to hear from anyone with more info on this car

Just to add a little more darkness the Engine 8508-8S shown above is out of series for this car
BUT it also appears in S812664 which would be correct for that chassis

Clearly Peter is correct. This page will remain because its likely meritcars.com did have the car and simply made an error in its listing. However as mentioned by gentlemantrout the chassis is claimed to be 812, leaving the first 3 digits unknown it's little help other than probably confirmation that its not 818979. The photos that were here are at S812664.
