Sellers description:
I am selling my XK140 and downsizing. I will give you a brief history of the car but please, ask questions. When I retired about five years ago, I was looking for a project to keep busy and thought I would like to restore a car. I have always owned British Sports cars, mostly Triumph's and Austin Healey's. I had a friend who lived in Everett Washington who was also retiring and downsizing to a smaller home and owned this XK140. He purchase the car in 73, drove it on and off for about a year then parked it in his garage where it sat until I purchased it from him. He told me the engine had been rebuilt just prior to when he purchased the car, so when I brought it home, I put in fluids, new gas, battery, etc., and to my great surprise it started right up. I was not expecting that to happen. Compression, oil pressure, all looked good, so I ran the engine a little every day for a couple weeks before putting her up on jack stands. At this point, I spent the next year completely disassembling the car and many months of chemically stripping off four layers of paint. I cleaned up the frame and repainted it however I never lifted the body off the frame, I just didn't want to deal with making a jig to keep the body straight. Those eight bolts were probably the only ones not taken off the car. After stripping off the paint and noticing the car had it's share of scrapes and dents over the years, the body work was done and then I had the car repainted in Old English White. The original color was Battleship Grey, no offense to those who love that color, but I just couldn't do that. I was very lucky to find all most no rust anywhere on the car expect for surface rust here and there. Then I began putting the car back together. Dropped the motor and transmission back in after a new clutch, pressure plate and throw-out bearing were installed. New brakes, including wheel cylinders, lines, etc., new wiring, stainless exhaust system, wood floor panels, carpets, stayfast top, tires, I even had the clock rebuilt. Nearly all the bright work has been re-chromed as well. It has been a great project, not something i will probably ever do again, but I've had fun and have enjoyed driving it around where I live but have not taken it on any extended trips other than to the All British Field Meet in Bellevue Washington this past July. This is a matching numbers car with Heritage Certificate. This XK140 OTS was built on November 9, 1954 and dispatched to Los Angeles on November 25, 1954 with the first owner purchasing in in January of 55. The car has the early production boot lid handle. The car comes with all the original tools, jack, lug wrench, grease gun, tool roll and tools.
