Auction description:

1955 Jaguar XK140

Colour White

Odometer 46,973 Miles

Engine size 3442

Auction DetailsSeller Type Trade

Town Bedford

Location Bedfordshire

Country United Kingdom

Only 46,966 miles from new

Stored in a heated garage for nearly 22 years

One of five classic Jaguars owned by the current keeper

Comes with a heritage certificate and a copy of the old V5

Good service history with numerous service bills and old MOTs

This particular example is a rare find, having been stored in a heated garage for nearly 22 years and thus reporting an astonishingly low mileage of only 46,966 miles from new. It's one of five classic Jaguars owned by the current keeper, and comes complete with plenty of service history and a heritage certificate.

A little work is required to get this car ready for the road - but it's still starting sweetly and is driving capably. Such an excellent foundation rarely comes to the market.

History and Paperwork

Built in 1955

Acquired by the current keeper in the late 1990s

Stored in an indoor heated garage since 2002

Documented and photographed before being stored in the garage

Removed from the garage in June 2023, after being stored there for nearly 21 years

Comes with a good service history, including:

A selection of invoices

Plenty of old MOTs

Jaguar Heritage certificate

A copy of the old V5

The Condition

Highly original throughout

21 years of storage has proven largely very kind to the car

Some cracks to the paintwork across the shell

Light corrosion around the wheel arches

The driver's side door requires attention as it does not close properly

Original Jaguar wheelset

Solid-looking underside with minimal corrosion

The interior has not been changed or restored

This is in acceptable condition, but could be improved to a higher quality standard

Seats are in good order with no rips or tears

Carpets and headlining are looking a little worn

Wood veneers largely in good order

All instruments legible

The Mechanics

3442cc DOHC Straight-6 engine

4-speed manual transmission

The engine starts and drives

Runs through the gears smoothly

However, the vendor does highlight that the brakes require attention

We've no reports of other mechanical issues or faults

Description from above auction:

1955 JAGUAR XK140 RARE UK RHD

* Car starts & drives , engine sounds as it should be.

* Good oil pressure

* Heritage Cetificate

* Good History File

Originally delivered to Jaguar dealerships, Bellamys, Originally supplied in Dove Grey, it is now offered in Old English White and, although the current paintwork is not perfect, ( definitely presentable if buyer wants to use as it is ) it starts on the button, ( grate oil pressure) runs well and offering plenty of scope for improvement. The contrasting biscuit leather interior is in relatively good order with matching carpets and wood cappings and dash, also sound. This example had its carburettors stripped, rebuilt and tuned in 1994 followed by an unleaded cylinder head fitted in 2001 not to mention a number of additional modifications such as a leather bonnet strap and twin Lucas front fog lights contributing to its sporting credentials. Unusually, it still sits on original pressed steel wheels with aluminium hubcaps and centre-screw Jaguar spinners. The period longwave radio still remains in-situ alongside a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate, a V5C document and an extensive file of bills and invoices as well as both doors boot that all lock, as required, and a stainless-steel exhaust running from manifold to tips. A handsome car, well-priced.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
