Auction description:
Brooklands Motor Museum

1951 Jaguar XK120 OTS Roadster
Registration VDR 120
Chassis Number 660545
Engine Number W2826-7
Odometer reading 41,047 miles
Estimate £85,000 - £95,000

This original early right hand drive Jaguar XK120 roadster with chrome sidelights and no side vents, was originally supplied by Henley's to its original owner a Mr Oswald Salvador with a registration MGT 883. The Jaguar was purchased in the summer of 1969 by the previous owner who at the tender age of 19 paid £190 for it. In the intervening 49 years the XK has been used in competition like the Wiscombe Hillclimb with the Aston Martin Owners Club, touring with the Jaguar Owners Club and classic rallies. In 2010 the XK was the subject of a body off restoration, the chassis was galvanized, the rear springs were replaced with nine leaf alpine springs, a thicker anti-roll bar and Mk. II steering bushes were fitted, the rear axle was replaced with a Salisbury axle disc brakes were fitted all round and 16-inch 54 spoke wire wheels fitted. The original 3.4 litre engine block has been bored out to 3.8 litre with 9:1 compression ratio pistons. The head is a later type which has been straight ported and gas flowed, fitted with high lift camshafts and lead free valves and seats (the original stud less head comes with the car), the carburation is uprated with two inch SU's carburettors. The body was stripped to bare metal and all necessary repairs were carried out before a full respray in the original colour of bronze. The interior has been re-trimmed in two-tone tan leather with matching carpets and the steering wheel is a smaller diameter leather rimmed example to allow the very tall driver access. This XK 120 is supplied with a V5C registration document, a Heritage certificate and a history file containing receipts, service details, MoT's and photographs of the restoration.

Chassis number two early to have "S" prefix
I have seen the first RHD "S" car 660983 and the first LHD "S" cars and even these cars don't have "S " prefix!

1951 Jaguar XK120 Roadster

Goodwood Revival Collectors' Motor Cars and Automobilia

Chichester, Goodwood

£80,000 - £100,000

Registration no. VDR 120

Chassis no. 660545

Engine no. W2826-7

• Original right-hand drive UK model

• Body-off restoration in 2010

• Upgraded specification

• Significant recent expenditure

This original right-hand drive Jaguar XK120 roadster was originally supplied by Henley's to its first owner, a Mr Oswald Salvador. The car was first registered as 'MGT 883'. In 2010 the XK was treated to a body-off restoration and several upgrades. The works included galvanising the chassis; replacing the rear springs with nine-leaf Alpine springs; and swapping the original rear axle for a Salisbury unit. In addition, the car was fitted with a thicker anti-roll bar; Mk2 steering bushes; disc brakes all round; and 54-spoke 16" wire wheels. The interior has been re-trimmed in two-tone tan leather with matching carpets. The car was repainted in 2020 in Grey and presents very well. The engine has been fitted with a high performance cylinder head, larger 2" SU carburettors and a raised compression ratio. It also has disc brakes and a five speed manual gearbox for comfortable high speed touring.

Purchased by our vendor in 2021, the car benefits from considerable subsequent work, indeed over £20,000 has been spent with Classic Performance Engineering. Works included a new clutch, and while the engine and gearbox were on a stand, a strip and refurbishment was carried out. A breakdown is available on file. At the annual Jaguar Drivers Club meeting in July 2021, 'VDR 120' was presented the award for best original XK120, showing the quality of the car and the work undertaken.

This XK 120 is supplied with a V5C registration document, a Heritage certificate and a history file containing receipts, service details, and MoTs. The original gearbox, disc wheels and brake components can be collected from the vendor post sale.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
