Auction description:
Lot Number 264
1959 Jaguar XK 150 S 3.4 Drophead Coupe
$150,000 - $200,000 Offered without reserve
RM | Sotheby's - ARIZONA 2018
Engine No.VS 1828-9
Chassis No T 838092 DN
Sold For $168,000
One of 68 left-hand-drive XK 150 S drophead coupes built
Excellent restoration by noted marque specialists
Numbers-matching engine block and cylinder head
Offered with tools, manual, and JDHT Certificate
One of just 68 factory S-specification drophead coupes delivered in the desirable left-hand-drive configuration, this car was completed on 26 January 1959 and delivered by Jaguar Cars of New York to the original owner in February. According to former owners, it wound up in California almost immediately, and remained a low-mileage example for many years before being sold to an owner in Oregon. It was later acquired by James Kakuska of J&K Restorations, who have been restoring XK Jaguars for over 30 years. They performed a no-expense-spared restoration to show condition, which was completed in 2010.
Virtually every component of the car was refinished during the restoration. The matching-numbers engine (block and cylinder head) was rebuilt and balanced by Auto Machine, who have been providing engines to J&K for some 30 years. The transmission, overdrive unit, and differential are original to the car, and have also been rebuilt; the differential was reassembled with new clutch discs. Included with the car are the tools, manual, matching wire wheel spare, an extra and extremely beautiful wood and aluminum steering wheel, and the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate.
This is an excellent opportunity to acquire a genuine and fully restored XK 150 S drophead coupe with a matching-numbers 3.4-liter engine, in its original colors, and with factory overdrive. With just 68 cars built in this configuration, it is an excellent example of one of the rarest and most defined variants of the Jaguar XK line.

This outstanding example was purchased by the vendor when he lived in Arizona and returned with him when he came back to the UK. The condition of this drophead coupé is exceptional with unblemished black paintwork, a delightful contrasting red interior and flawless chromework. A first class ‘nut and bolt’ restoration has been carried out on this Jaguar which is surely one of the best examples available anywhere in the world today. The engine bay of this XK150S is unmarked with polished aluminium glistening as soon as the bonnet is lifted. Starting the 3.4 litre engine is effortless and the six cylinder engine runs exceedingly well, we are advised this outstanding Jaguar drives as well as she looks. Cars of this calibre rarely come to market, viewing is strongly recommended to appreciate the quality of this beautiful Jaguar.

Seller's description:
1959 Jaguar XK150s 3.4 Litre DHC Left Hand Drive
Chassis Number: T838092DN
Registration Number: 468XVD
An Immaculate Matching numbers Jaguar XK150 3.4S Manual Drop Head Coupe in its original colour scheme of Black over a red leather interior as confirmed by a Jaguar Heritage Certificate. A full restoration file comes with the car.
This car was purchased in the USA as a low mileage example having coviered 56,000 miles at the time of purchase. It was then subjected to a nut & bolt restoration prior to living at the current owners Arizona home. The car comes with his Arizona License Plate. The car was then bought back to the UK when he returned & has resided in his private collection ever since. The speedometer was zeroed out at restoration & indicates that the car has done less then 200 miles since completion.
This again is a difficult car to fault as it is pristine in condition right down to the original tool kit in the boot. The triple Carb engine runs beautifully with a typically Jaguar crisp note. The car sits on brand new chrome wire wheels & has had all other brightwork re-chromed as part of the restoration.
It is always a great pleasure for us to sell a beautiful car that needs no excuses & wants for nothing.
