This rare 3.8-litre S was completed on September 25, 1959, leaving Coventry for the US in October of the same year. Upon arrival, it was sold to its first owner, Mr. Karl Briley of Indiana. Mr. Briley is believed to have owned the XK for only a short period of time, before selling it to Leroy Adams of Fresno, California. The car remained in the dry California high desert for a number of decades until the current owner, a very passionate Jaguar collector, bought the car in the Summer of 1989. To his great pleasure, he had discovered a very sound car in remarkably original condition, showing minimal surface rust and no signs of having been in an accident.

Shortly after bringing the car home, the current owner commissioned a full restoration with a keen emphasis on maintaining the originality of the car. The conscientious work, which included attention to the body, engine and interior, was completed to concours standards by the most highly regarded shops in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Every aspect of the restoration was rigorously checked using as reference the respected automotive books: Original Jaguar XK by Philip Porter and Jaguar XK 140/150 In Detail by Anders Ditlev Clausager. It was discovered during restoration that all numbers match, including the engine and transmission, and even those stamped on the original SU carburetors. The car has been verified by a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate, which accompanies the sale of this remarkable and very rare Jaguar.

Finished in a glistening black, that allows its graceful shape to assume center stage, the painstakingly refinished chrome stands out beautifully. The interior is finished to the same exacting standards using Biscuit leather , superbly complementing the black exterior.

These cars have earned the adulation of automobile cognoscenti the world over, and the rare 3.8-litre model offered here is a lovely example that has been fully restored from a sound, original car. It checks all of the boxes for the classic car collector: limited production run, impeccable style, power and performance – and luxurious comfort!
