Sellers description:
1959 Jaguar XK 150 S Fixed Head Coupe. He recalls the car was restored to the present condition in the 90's. The car came from Alabama prior to Tennessee and he has kept it stored in TN while he has owned it. He has not driven the car much at all since he purchased it. Too many cars and too little time. I personally have driven this car more than the owner has. Car comes with a clean and clear TN title which will be transferred to the winning bidder. I have an owners manual but it is in poor condition. I will do my best to list what we know about the car but I will admit that I'm not a Jaguar historian. On 06/08/12 I drove the car from the owners' storage facility to my home which is approx. 15 miles. The car ran great and drives very well for a 53 year old car. I ran up to about 60 mph w/o any issues. The car is covered in my garage and inspections are welcomed. I will list all I know, or have been told, about the car and if you have any questions feel free to ask. If you are serious about buying you need to come and personally inspect the car.
Chassis # T836079DN
Body # J9866
Engine # VS1836-9 ***Motor and Trans. have been changed***
Auto Trans # JLS43340JS
EXTERIOR-
Unknown original color. Unknown when car was last painted but best estimate is some time in the 1990's. Paint still shows very well and body is very straight with some minor imperfections. Aluminum hood very clean and straight. Right front turn signal lense is busted and slight dent behind housing. Happened while vehicle was in storage. Few small chips and some bubbles under paint on right door and some on right side of roof. All glass is still in great shape. Door glass rolls down with ease and all wing windows work well. All chrome is in very good shape but is not perfect. Appears to be all original. S emblem is missing off passenger door. Holes are there but emblem is missing. Headlights, parking and taillights still function. Brake lights do not work.
INTERIOR-
All interior redone in similar pattern as original. Material is Alante Vinyl which has the look and feel of leather. Interior dash lights work as well as the speedometer, amp, oil pressure and temp. gauge. Fuel gauge registers but I have a hard time saying a 50 plus year old fuel gauge is accurate. Aftermarket temp. gauge under dash that works. Tachometer works but is a little bouncy.
Trunk finished in cut pile carpet and spare tire and jack in great shape. Spare tire well is solid.
DRIVETRAIN-
Original motor and transmission removed at some point. Converted to Chevrolet V8 motor and TH350 transmission, unknown mileage. Two decals in the engine compartment indicate the V8 conversion was performed by London Motors in Orange, CA. I have searched but cannot locate this business for any further information. Along with this conversion a Harrison Air Conditioner compressor was used as well as a GM style alternator and power steering pump which is connected to a power rack and pinion. Motor has a 2 barrel carburetor and runs well with no smoke. Even the choke still works. Converted to 12 volt system and still retains a glass style fuse box. Has a Ford style starter solenoid and interior floor shifter. True dual exhaust using stock cast iron manifolds. Exhaust stops just before the rear axle. Has a flex fan on the motor and 2 electric pusher fans mounted in front of the radiator. One of the pusher fans is not working. Underdash AC unit is hooked up but I could not get it to function. I can feel heat coming out but the heater fan motor is not working.
16 inch true Knockoff wheels with Coker Classic wide whitewall tires with great tread.
4 wheel disc brakes with Dunlop brake calipers still stop good but the right rear caliper is leaking around the piston seal.
BODY/FRAME-
Body appears to be very solid and is definitely straight. Floor pans appear solid. Inner rocker panels show some signs of rust and have had some patchwork done to them. I cannot find any frame rot. Rubber body mounts look great. Car does have some light undercoating but not caked on where you cannot see what is really there.
OTHER-
Not a first class national show car and not being advertised as one. From what I can tell it is a very solid car with a quality V8 conversion. I am amazed at how good the car rides, drives and handles. It was nearly 90 degrees, and humid, when I drove it on 06/08/12 and the temp stayed around 200-210 with one of the pusher fans not working. I feel like this car was converted to a V8 20 plus years ago based on the motor style and parts used. With that being said, if some of the parts were upgraded to modern standards I think this car would be an absolute thrill to drive.
KNOWN ISSUES-
Right rear brake caliper leaking around piston seal
Left headlight bezel has small ding in it
Wheels have some rust behind the spokes
Dent behind the right front turn signal and lense is busted
Right exterior door handle is locked...door must be opened with inside handle. I'm trying to get it unlocked.
No working brake lights
One electric pusher fan is not working
Heater fan not working
Aftermarket steering wheel and telescoping feature does not lock.
