    Car on BaT

    bringatrailer.com/listing/1959-jaguar-xk150-s-3/

    Auction description:

    Seller: johndevine

    Location: Whitesburg, Georgia 30185

    Chassis: T831765DN

    91k Miles Shown, TMU

    3.4-Liter Inline-Six

    Triple SU Carburetors

    Four-Speed Manual Transmission

    Black Paint

    Red Leather Upholstery

    Black Convertible Soft Top

    16" Wire Spoke Wheels

    Four-Wheel Disc Brakes

    Smiths Gauges

Private Party or Dealer: Private Party

This 1959 Jaguar XK150 S roadster was acquired by the seller in 1988 from its second owner in Florida and was subsequently refurbished, with work including a body-off repaint in black, reupholstering the red leather interior, and rebuilding the 3.4-liter inline-six and four-speed manual transmission. More recent freshening in August 2022 consisted of polishing the engine and replacing the fluids, tires, and battery. The car has a removable black soft top, 16″ wire wheels, disc brakes, and adjustable seats. This XK150 S is now offered with a service manual and transferable Georgia registration.

The body was removed from the frame and repainted black during the refurbishment in the late 1980s. A replacement black soft top was fitted, and additional equipment includes a one-piece windshield, bright trim, and full-width chrome bumpers with overriders.

The replacement 16″ wire wheels wear 185-width Vredestein Sprint Classic tires that were mounted in August 2022. A full-size spare is stored under the trunk floor, and braking is handled by four-wheel discs, which were rebuilt along with the suspension during the refurbishment.

The adjustable seats were reupholstered in red leather during the refurbishment and are complemented by a leather-wrapped dashboard. Interior appointments include a cabin heater, a defroster, wind-up side windows, door storage pockets, and a folding rear bulkhead.

The four-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 6k-rpm tachometer with an embedded clock as well as a 140-mph speedometer and an ammeter alongside gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, and water temperature. The rebuilt five-digit odometer shows 91k miles, approximately 10k of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.

The 3,442cc inline-six featured triple SU HD8 carburetors from the factory for a rating of 250 horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque. The engine was reportedly rebuilt in 1989. Fluid changes, polishing the valve covers, and a battery replacement were carried out in August 2022.

Engine block stamping VS1622-9 matches that shown on the ID plate in the engine bay.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive, which is said to have been rebuilt at the same time as the engine.

A handful of photos from the refurbishment work are included in the sale.

The car is being sold on its registration, as it is located in a state that does not issue titles for vehicles of its age.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
