This remarkable XK150 S Roadster was dispatched on November 26th, 1958 via Jaguar Cars in New York to the first owner Mr. J.N. Hill of New Jersey. Oddly enough, it was here in New Jersey this "S" would remain. Purchased by the vendor in the mid-1980's with fewer than 40,000 miles from the then third owner. The car was in tired but still presentable condition. It was used lightly over the next several years until it was decided to return it to its former glory. The Jaguar was stripped to bare metal and resprayed in the original black finish, any pieces of chrome not otherwise in excellent shape was replaced and the entire interior was retrimmed for the exception of the dash fascia. Further new 185R16 Michelin vintage treat radials were installed on new chrome 16" wire wheels with the original spare still in place. The engine bay presents in detailed form and the 150 "S" is accompanied by its original owners manual, showroom brochures, tools, grease gun, and Lucas fog and road lamps. This is a rare opportunity to acquire the best of the Jaguar XK series. Christie's recommends close inspection of this example.

This is a roadster which we purchased in the mid 1980s –with fewer than 40,000 miles –from its third local owner. It then was very original but had but far-from-great paint, top and leather--even three of the whitewall tires were still original. We drove the car a fair bit over the years before deciding to bring it back to its former glory. It is a completely numbers-matching, original “S” high-performance roadster finished in its original color combination of black with dark red leather, tan cloth top and chrome 16” wire wheels. All information is verified by its accompanying “Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate.” The body was stripped to bare metal, any chrome not in excellent condition was replaced, the entire interior except for the original grey leather center section of the facia has been completely replaced as has the top. New 185R16 Michelin vintage tread radials have been installed on new chrome 16” wire wheels (although the original spare is still in place). The car--including the engine bay--has been thoroughly detailed and is accompanied by its original owner’s manual, showroom brochures, tools, grease gun, Lucas fog and road lamps, etc. This is a very high-point, absolutely correct and authentic “S” with just 42,356 miles. $ 175,000.

I scratch my head when I see these restorations that include the "S" badge mounted upside down!~
It happens often ... These badges were designed with an "S" font that embraces speed and powerful forward motion. They are not only "handed" ie: each side should have the arrow pointed forward, but the font graphic is designed with the more curved portion of the "S" to appear on the bottom, the open curve pushing forward with the cars motion. Does this upside down mounting bother anyone else but me?!

Truly amazing. Complete history

1959 JAGUAR XK-150S ROADSTER. Chassis #T831755 DN; Engine #VS 1627-9. (Stock #3798.)
Ours was built on November 17th, 1958 as a black car with red leather and sand colored cloth convertible top (1 of 8 built in that color combination) and sold new by Bekrag Motors in Orange, New Jersey. Bekrag then delivered the exciting new car to Mr. J.N. Hill in New Jersey . The car stayed in New Jersey spening time with two other New Jersey owners prior to arriving at The Stable in 1988. When the car arrived at The Stable, it was discovered that not only was the car an entirely numbers-matching "S" model, but it was still accompanied by its original: owner's manual, complete original tool kit and roll, tire jack and wrench, grease gun, factory-issued identification card, lubrication chart, showroom brochures (2), Dunlop Road Speed 6.00X16 spare tire and even its original Jaguar dealer showroom gift-item Zippo pocket lighter and gorgeous dealer-offered Derrington steering wheel. We kept the car for 14 years and then sent it to a vintage Jaguar specialist for a sympathetic restoration as original. We then sold this very special car to a local (Far Hills) collector. He became enamored of the car, decided to make it as new and sent it to California to marque specialists where the car underwent a 2&1/2 year restoration. The XK-150S roadster emerged as it is presented now--a virtually flawless example as it would have been seen and driven when new. A 5-speed transmission was installed in the car for increased performance and ease of driving while the original, numbers-matching 4-speed unit has been saved with the car. All restoration records and CD's are present with the car along with every bit of the car's original documentation and equipment. A tonneau cover has been made in tan cloth matching the convertible top and a custom cover is supplied to keep the car in the condition evident now. A reproduction owner's manual is present in the car in order to preserve the original item in its current excellent condition. This is an astonishingly fine example of a wonderful and quite rare car. 43,902 original miles with fewer than 1,000 being driven since restoration. $285,000.

This gorgeous 1959 XK150 is one of just 888 3.4-liter “S” Open Two-Seat roadsters produced. It is the subject of a body-off, nut-and-bolt restoration finished in its striking original color scheme of black over red leather upholstery with a sand hood and is believed to be one of just eight cars built to this specification and color scheme. Bekrag Motors of Orange, New Jersey, sold it new to Mr. J.N. Hill, and it remained within New Jersey for much of its life. In the mid-1980s, a local collector acquired it from the 3rd owner, reportedly with just 43,000 miles on the odometer. It was described as a clean original car at the time, and the owner enjoyed the car for several years before sending it to a California Jaguar specialist for a 2 ½ year nut and bolt restoration. The XK150 was returned to its original splendor, finished in factory-correct colors with exceptional, high-level detailing.

In 2016, the XK150 S was purchased by another New Jersey based collector, who subsequently sold the motorcar to its most recent custodian in 2021. Since then, this lovely XK has been maintained thoroughly by a highly regarded shop in Connecticut. In 2023 the Jaguar proved itself at the Jaguar of New England Concours, receiving Best in Class (XK), Best in Show by judge’s vote, and finally People’s Choice. A year later the Jaguar was shown at the Audrain Concours d’Elegance, completing the tour and was highly competitive on the show field.

As presented, it is an exquisite example with a superb, highly detailed restoration. The black bodywork is impressively crisp and straight with excellent panel fitment. Chrome and brightwork are similarly outstanding, and the car rides on brilliant chrome knock-off wire wheels shod with Blockley radials. It currently shows fewer than 45,000 miles, which is believed to be accurate and has covered just a few thousand since its world-class restoration.

The beautifully trimmed cockpit is finished with superb red Connolly hides and correct materials such as Wilton carpet and vinyl coverings. Instruments and controls are naturally all correct and beautifully restored. The hood is trimmed in sand-colored Haartz canvas, and the boot is lined with proper red Hardura.

Lifting the bonnet reveals a gorgeous, highly detailed engine bay. The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate confirms it retains its original, numbers-matching block and head. The presentation is superb, with highly polished alloy cam covers, triple SU carburetors (unique to the S model), and authentic decals and labels. The original airbox remains in its rightful place, and the hoses, clamps, and ancillaries are appropriately detailed to concours standards. The restorers fitted an updated five-speed all-synchro gearbox, allowing for trouble-free high-speed touring and effortless up- and downshifts. Additionally, a gear reduction starter and Pertronix ignition system were fitted, while the car was returned to its correct negative ground 12-volt system.

Opportunities to acquire a genuine XK150 S roadster are rare, particularly in such an eminently attractive and desirable factory color scheme. This concours-proven example is fit for a wide range of worldwide motoring events, with exquisite detailing to wow the judges and exhilarating performance to thrill occupants on the open road.
