RHD XK150 3.8 ‘S’ FHC T825363DN
This car was built and sold in July 1961. It is the last example of a 3.8 ‘S’ Fixed head to be made, and has the last 3.8 ‘S’ engine , VAS1312-9.
The car started life as a LHD XK150, S847039, in October 1960. As the new E-Type had just been announced, several XK150s were still unsold, and 8 LHD cars were recalled to the factory to be converted to RHD to meet the few customer orders outstanding.
The car has been totally restored over a 21 year period, and was put on the road for the first time in nearly 30 years in August 2007.
The restoration revealed many interesting items about the car.
The body was not removed when the conversion took place, so the original chassis number was obliterated with what appears to be an angle grinder. The new chassis number was stamped approximately 8 inches forward of the normal position, as the overhang of the bulkhead would have been in the way.
The holes for the pedals and the steering column in the LHD form were covered with metal plates riveted into position.
The ‘Made in England’ plate, normally found on exported cars, was left in position above the vehicle ID plate.
