I received this note from the owner:

"I own this car and it is in Detroit, MIchigan. It is the FIRST XK 150 S 3.8 litre, built for the 1959 London Motor Show and used as a press car by Jaguar until early 1961. In 1999 Tony Okeeffe at JDHT located the car for the CEO of Ford Motor Company, Jac Nasser. It was subsequently displayed for a number of years at the JDHT museum. About one year ago I acquired the car from my friend Mr. Nasser. The folowing are the full specs:

Road tested by Chris Jennings in The Motor January 6, 1960. Reviewed by John Bolster in Autosport June 17, 1960. Appears in Jeremy Boyce book, Jaguar XK Series-The Complete Story also in Chris Harvey's book.The Jaguar XK. The history of the car is covered by Paul Skilleter in Jaguar XKs. Displayed at the JDHT from 1999 until 2003.. It was imported to the USA by it's former owner, then CEO of the Ford Motor Company, Jac Nasser. It has covered 74,229 miles from new. Restored from 1987 until 1999, about 700 miles since then, just enough to maintain it's character ! Full records from new.

The first engine of this new series, motor number VAS 1001--9, was installed along with a four speed, Laycock de Normanville electric overdrive, number JLS44721 JS.; At 265, this was the most powerful of all the XK production models and the exact prototype for the coming 1961 E-type sensation. On October 12, 1959 Jaguar registered this car in Coventry, England as a company owned vehicle and it currently retains this original plate, YHP 791 .Jaguar Cars Ltd. displayed this car at the London Motor Show, held at Earl's Court in late October, 1959. The car was painted British Racing Green with a Suede Green leather interior. After the show closed the car remained in service with Jaguar until February, 1061. All history is documented from all subsequent owners.

At the conclusion of the show Christopher Jennings, the editor of the "The Motor" asked for the use of YHP 791 to tour Scotland. He published his review along with photographs of the Jaguar on January 6, 1960. The next major review along with photographs of YHP 791 appeared on June 17, 1960 by John Bolster of "Autosport". Bolster obtained a timed speed of 136.3 mph with full equipment, including the original fog lamps. While part of the Jaguar Press fleet, the car was photographed on the streets of London during 1960 and appears in Jeremy Boyce's Jaguar XK - The Complete Story. Production of all body types of the 3.8 liter XK 150 S totaled 265 cars between 1959 and 1961. Of this 111 were FHC and RHD, a larger number than were left drive since the factory wanted the service receipts near home as to better evaluate the engine prior to its being placed into the new E-type in 1961.

This particular car is generally viewed as the most important of all of the XK 150 "S"s to have survived. YHP 791 was restored in England as an unmolested, low mileage (74,248) specimen from 1994 until 2002. Since that time it has covered an additional 700 miles, just enough to maintain its character.

All component numbers on the car match and have been documented by the Jaguar-Daimler Heritage Trust along with the car's remarkable company history. Ownership records, MOT, insurance, service, restoration (photographs and documentation), and correspondence, inspection, and Press reports, along with manuals, brochures, and books have been compiled. The last previous owner was very well known in the Ford hierarchy and purchased in 1999. The car was later exhibited at the Jaguar-Daimler Heritage Trust Museum in Coventry until that Ford motor exec imported the car (after its full restoration) to the States in 2003.

The following improvements have been fitted:
1. Unleaded fuel conversion
2. Power rack and pinion steering
3. Alternator with negative ground
4. Upgraded cooling system, with electric fan and high flow radiator
5. Five chrome wire wheels with Pirelli 4000 205x70xR15s (originals remain with the car)

Due to its specifications, history, restoration, and documentation, this vehicle is near the top of the scale which bestows value and interest.

You will see in the detailed photo above the head is numbered VAS 1001-9. The block is numbered the same. Both were closely examined by me during my ownership. The head and block number were previously verified by the Trust prior to the car's long term exhibition there.

Known by its original Coventry registration number of YHP 791, this right-hand drive XK150 was the first of the 3.8-Litre “S” models, built on September 18, 1959. It’s engine, VAS 1001-9, was the first of the new series. It is mated to a four-speed manual transmission with Laycock de Normanville overdrive and a 4.09:1 Thornton Power-Lok rear axle. On October 12, 1959, Jaguar registered the car as a company vehicle. At the same time, Jaguar registered the first 3.8-Litre MKII Sedan which was assigned YHP 790. Both cars were painted British Racing Green and fitted with suede green leather interiors. The coupe remained in Jaguar’s possession until February 1961.

This car is well-documented during its early history appearing in several publications including a timed speed run of 136.3 mph by John Bolster of Autosport, June 17, 1960. It is still fitted with its original engine block, as verified by the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate, yet it is not known if the cylinder head is original. Also included in the history file are previous MoTs, correspondence, service records, press reports, books, manuals and brochures.

The XK150S was restored in England during 1987-2002. Photo documentation is available. While under restoration, it was purchased in 1999 by Jacques Nasser, former President and CEO of Ford Motor Company. It was displayed at the JDHT Museum in Coventry prior to coming to the United States in 2003. During the restoration, the car was upgraded with a port and polished head to enable better performance on unleaded fuel; power rack and pinion steering; an alternator with negative ground; cooling system with electric fan and high-flow radiator; discreetly fitted contemporary air-conditioning; a modern radio discretely installed in the boot; and five chrome wire wheels with Pirelli 4000 205x70R15 tires (the original wire wheels with Avon tires will remain with the car).

This right-hand drive 1959 Jaguar XK 150 S Fixed Head Coupe was the first “S” car fitted with Jaguar's 3.8-liter engine—rolling off the assembly line on the 18th of September 1959. Finished in British Racing Green over Suede Green leather seats and green wool carpeting, it was originally retained by the Jaguar Press Department and was used for press and marketing purposes until early 1961, bearing Coventry registration YHP 791. As a member of the press fleet, it was updated throughout the XK 150's life cycle, receiving a number of mechanical and cosmetic revisions from the factory. The car was notably displayed by Jaguar at the London Motor Show at Earls Court in October 1959. It was also featured in several magazine articles, including Autosport and The Motor, and appeared in Jaguar XK Series – The Complete Story by Jeremy Boyce. After a string of private owners, the Jaguar was purchased by Car Care Works LTD/Chiltern Aston Martin in March 1987, who would oversee its meticulous restoration beginning in 1987 and spanning more than a decade. The Jaguar was purchased in May 1999, while still under restoration, by Jacques Nasser, the President and CEO of Ford Motor Company, which was the parent company of Jaguar at the time. The restoration continued through Jaguar specialists Derek Watson and Don Law Jaguar, where the XK 150 received enhancements including a ported and polished head, stainless-steel exhaust, power rack-and-pinion steering, an improved cooling system with electric fan, high-flow radiator, air conditioning, and a modern radio installed in the trunk.

Upon completion, this significant example was displayed at the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Museum in Coventry, England, in the early 2000s before being imported into the United States in 2003.
