Additional information from above auction:

Purchased in 1979 this stunning example of the ultimate XK was used regularly until a full body and mechanical restoration was carried out by Jaguar specialists in 1997-98. Since that time it has been used sparingly and remains in excellent condition. Finished in Old English White with red interior the car is accompanied by fifteen assorted MoT certificates dating back to 1980, all important Heritage Certificate, bills and photographs of the rebuild, owners handbook, Swansea V5 and current MoT. A truly wonderful example of one of the most iconic Jaguar's which has been cosseted in long term enthusiast ownership.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
