Very nice original XK-150 FHC, numbers matching, well cared for and garage kept and only driven on special occasions. This vehicle has a very nice patina of originality. It has original mileage and documented.

Show / Driver Level

As before with the XK range, standard (steel wheel) and special equipment models were available, but a bewildering range of models was to evolve. First, in 1958 the S model was announced, equipped to special equipment specification, and with a more powerful engine, though still of 3.4 liter capacity. Late in 1959 further options became available with the introduction of the 3.8 liter engine, and the XK150 was available not only in 3.4 liter versions, but two versions (normal and "S") of the 3.8. All three body versions were available with all the engine options. Production all but stopped after 1960, but a very few cars appear to have been manufactured in 1961.

Sellers description:
1961 Jaguar XK 150 3.8 Drophead Coupe
LOT 187 To be auctioned on Friday
ESTIMATE: $110,000 - $130,000
CHASSIS NO: S838726DN
The XK 150 drophead coupe offered here is a very late production model registered in 1961, the same year the historic E-Type was introduced. This car has the very desirable 3.8 liter engine which was effectively the same engine intended for use on the new XKE models. This XK 150 is a matching numbers example with a nice patina of originality. It was well cared for, garage kept and only driven on special occasions with documented original mileage.

It has very recently received a comprehensive and show quality restoration by the marque specialists at Classic Showcase of Southern California. The car was given a complete repaint, color sand and buffing ensuring a lustrous shine throughout. The engine and transmission were rebuilt, and the car was given an all-new interior, top, boot, rubber and seals.

The 3.8 liter engine was rebuilt to factory specifications, matching and calibrated with new pistons, bearings, valves, guides, seals, timing chain and the cylinder heads were completely rebuilt. Other mechanical elements given attention include rebuilt carburetors and clutch, all new brake parts, the drive shaft was balanced, the shocks were restored, a new suspension was fitted, the undercarriage was rebuilt, the gas tank was restored and epoxy sealed and the fuel pump was rebuilt. All of the chassis and many other parts were restored including top bows and seat frames. All electrical components including gauges, knobs, and switches were restored.

The bodywork was given a great deal of attention, before being resprayed. All the brightwork was either replaced or replated to show standards. The two-tone silver and black interior was fitted with new carpets, dash and seats and appears to be in near superb condition. The restoration was so meticulously performed that a DVD movie documenting the entire process was made and will accompany the car in its sale. This is undoubtedly one of the finest examples of its kind and we encourage close inspection of this beautiful drophead coupe.
