CHRIS'S COMMENTS
$16,850 a good buy. With some TLC, car could go for $25k later this summer. These cars were up 10% last year. Unknown history and mileage. Scary trunk. Vinyl interior. Has the rust cancer. This is a beautiful, but nervous car. Presentation was not terribly confidence-inspiring when the seller found out during the auction that the car actually started life with its manual trans. So, seller's credibility tarnished a little when it comes to representation and knowledge of car. But overall, the presentation was fair. Still, no documentation provided. (Chris Lydiksen)

OWNER'S COMMENTS
On the ID plate for the car, the engine number is listed as VA1870-8. The head on this car matches that. The current engine number in the car is 7P56577. This car was originally fitted with an automatic transmission and at some point was upgraded to a 4 speed with overdrive. The interior is done in vinyl and there is some shrinkage on the dash around the vents, the headliner is in good shape and there is only minor deterioration on the driver's seat and carpets. The paint is in very nice condition and the panel fit is good all around with the only exception being that the trunk doesn't close 100% tight but just needs minor adjustment to fix. The left front fender was repaired at some point. It was done properly and shows no waviness. The rear of the car shows signs of damage repair, but was redone nicely. The rear fenders have signs of rust underneath at the seams where they meet the body, but it's not showing through on top of the fenders except for a few small bubbles on the right rear. The 16" chrome wire wheels are in good shape with original style tires fitted that are also looking good. The car is in running and driving condition without any major mechanical issues. It has not been driven much in the last three years, and so a general inspection and servicing of the car would be suggested. It has recently come to our attention that, based on the serial number of the car, this was originally fitted with a 4 speed O/D transmission. This car was NOT converted from an automatic to a manual.

Ebay item 8/31/11

Current bid $32,600 reserve not met, 17 bids 4 days left in auction. Car now in Sonoma, California.

Sellers description:
1961 Jaguar XK150 Fixed Head Coupe for sale. Purchased by current owner in 2003 from it's prior San Francisco owner. At the time the car had a new paint job but needed just about everything else. It was sent to XK's Unlimited in San Luis Obispo for over a year where over $47,000 was spent restoring the car to the stunning condition is is in today. Includes all new wiring, leather & wool interior, re-chroming, rubber, and a plethora of fine details. Prior to it's year long tryst at XK's Unlimited, $10,000 was spent on a complete rebuild of the 3.8 Liter Engine. Easily starts then runs and drives absolutely wonderfully with tight suspension and braking, lovely sounding exhaust and freshly rebuilt 3.8 liter motor that runs with exacting precision. The paint job is quite nice but not show quality and does have a few flaws that are easily repairable.

The car comes with over three pounds of records, available to be seen by request. VIN# S836830DN

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
