    Additional description from above auction:
Dating from 1960, this left-hand-drive example was originally exported to the USA before being repatriated some 12 years ago and has been in single ownership since. Remaining in the original format, the car was repainted in Carmine red before leaving the States and completely retrimed in grey hide by Dave Strange of Guildford soon after landing. The braking system has been overhauled and uprated, with the fitment of Coopercraft callipers, a stainless steel exhaust is fitted, the wire wheels have been recently replaced to the original pattern and new radial tyres are fitted. Other than this, and the re-plating of some brightwork, the car appears to be a very original and unmolested example (with all numbers matching), having apparently resided in a favourably dry climate previously. A brief test proved the car to drive well with no apparent faults.

In very nice order throughout, this is one of the most pleasing Jaguar coupés we have experienced recently. Accompanying the car is an extensive history file and a heritage certificate, and the original maintenance manual and handbooks etc. are also included. A V5 document is also supplied and a new MOT will be applied for before the sale.

    Estimate: £21,500 - £22,500

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
