Odo: 40.674 miles. Very nice paint and bodywork, excellent leather and chrome. Looks like a no-longer-fresh restoration: cloth top needs full cleaning, lots of detailing work would help. Carpets excellent, very good glass and dash. Cond: 3+. Sold at $ 77.000 by RM Auctions, Meadow Brook, Michigan in 2003.

Auction description:

1959 Jaguar XK 150 S 3.4 Roadster

Passion for the Drive: The Cars of Jim Taylor

Broad Arrow Auctions, a Broad Arrow Group Company, is thrilled to announce the single owner offering auction of Mr. Jim Taylor, taking place this 14-15 October in his hometown of Gloversville, located a short distance from Albany, New York.

Chassis No. S 830981 DN

Engine No. VS 1138-9

Body No. F 15979

Jaguar reached the zenith of the XK's development with the XK 150 S, which combined that model's most refined chassis, with four-wheel disc brakes, with an engine equipped with triple SU carburetors and a competition-style, straight-ported cylinder head. With the 3.4-litre engine, the car offered up a remarkable 250 bhp, making it a robust performer that also handled and stopped more adroitly than virtually anything else of its era.

The XK 150 S offered here, a left-hand-drive, 3.4-litre model, was acquired by Jim Taylor in 2003. A highly attractive older restoration of a clean, dry-climate car in black with dark red leather interior, Everflex door panels, red Wilton carpeting, and black canvas top, it displays a full rank of original Smiths gauges within its leather dashboard. The engine is the original unit, with matching block and head, per the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate on file. It is fitted with triple SU carburetors and the correct S-specific air cleaner. Equipment includes 16-in. chrome wire wheels, shod with Michelin X radial tires, as well as Lucas fog lamps and unusual colored Plexiglas sun visors. At the time of cataloging, the car had recorded 41,333 miles. It is accompanied by a complete new reproduction tool roll, jack, grease gun, matching spare wheel with Michelin tire, and a canvas tonneau cover.

Mr. Taylor purchased this car to drive and enjoy, and it has been, having run the Colorado Grand in his ownership and performed beautifully and very strongly. It was made to go – and go, it does!

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
