Car and description in the Oct. 2011 edition of the XK Gazette. Was on the market, not sold.
www.bonhams.com/eur/auction/19289/lot/255/
Auction description:
Lot No: 255
1958 Jaguar XK150 Roadster
Registration no. 20 KAT
Chassis no. S830033DN
Estimate: £70,000 - 80,000, € 80,000 - 91,000
Built in February 1958, the car was exported to the USA where it is believed to have spent the next 40 years in the warmth of Tennessee before returning to England in 1999 and being purchased by the current owner. An extensive restoration of the entire car commenced, including rebuilds of the engine, gearbox and rear axle. More recently the engine has been upgraded to full 3.8S specification by Trafford Competition Engines, a name normally associated with C-Type and D-Type Jaguars. Trafford Competition Engines confirm in writing that the engine produces 307bhp, compared with the claimed 265bhp of a standard XK150S. Since this engine was built in 2007 the car has competed in fewer than 20 events.
This car weighs approximately 1,260kg (2,772lb) which is some 215kg (473lb) lighter than standard. This is partly due to the aluminium body, specially made by RS Panels, plus the substitution of aluminium for other steel parts including the seats, fuel tank, oil catch-tank and radiator.
An E-Type close-ratio gearbox has been installed for faster gear changes, while up-rated brake discs and callipers have been fitted to safely stop this very fast car. Handling and suspension upgrades were designed and supplied by Harvey Bailey Engineering. Indeed, many of the UK's very best Jaguar specialists have worked on this car over the past 10 years regardless of cost, each contributing their own specialist expertise to make it possibly the fastest XK150 roadster in Europe. Full specifications of the engine and other modifications are available for inspection in the history file, which also contains race results sheets and invoices in excess of £175,000. (We are advised by the owner that total expenditure over the last 10 years exceeds £200,000).
Said to be great fun as a rally car, the XK has competed in numerous events in the UK and Europe, demonstrating a level of performance that has startled competitors whose cars are considerably younger. It is also a very competitive race car, which for many years has been a front runner in the XK Championship and is also eligible for the HRDC championship and other series across Europe. Despite all this power and the numerous modifications it is suitable for normal road use, although a reduction in the engine's 11.0:1 compression ratio would be recommended.
If you are interested in concours competitions then this is not the car for you, but if you want to go rallying, racing or touring then it is a far more attractive proposition than a standard XK150, boasting more power, less weight, improved handling, faster gear changes, a long range tank and excellent reliability. Currently taxed and supplied with a fresh MoT certificate, the car is compliant with MSA scrutineering requirements and is ready to be enjoyed. It is sold complete with its hood, side windows, front/rear bumpers and four additional chromed wire wheels plus tyres. There is also a tailored waterproof cover for when the car is being transported on an open trailer. It should be noted that the registration number '20 KAT' is not included in the sale but may be available by separate negotiation.
