Hello Peter. Thank you for your comment. Unlike most XK's, this car still has its original engine, gearbox, overdrive, brakes, interior and instruments and has not been "modified" or "improved" in any way apart from using modern oils, tyres and brake pads. The car was resprayed in the original Carmen Red colour some time ago which matches the colour underneath the bonnet. The previous owner had fitted bucket seats which have now been replaced with the original seats. This car is used several times each week and has not just emerged from a time wharp museum where it lay untouched for the last 54 years. Because of the respray, it is not "concours", but I think it is a loverly car and I enjoy the driving experience, especially when I get the gear changes right ! Have a pleasant day.

New Zealand changed their motor vehicle registration system about 15 years ago and I have been unable to access any details regarding previous owners prior to 1995 from this source. Did the Liverpool Bibby family have any relatives in NZ in 1996 ? The car was registered as BOXES in 1995 and I do not know of the relevance of this name as well. Any help in determining its prior history would be greatly appreciated. D.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
