Auction description:
Lot 077: 1958 JAGUAR XK150 FIXED HEAD COUPE
Classic Cars, H&H Classic Auctions Ltd (8th June 2005)
Overview
At some time, too, the S cylinder head and triple carburettors have been replaced with standard XK head and carbs, though the 3.4 motor was completely rebuilt and converted to accommodate lead-free petrol by marque specialists Broads at a cost of over ú6000 in 2003, there being receipts and photos among the paperwork recording the work carried out. Again during 2004, the car was back with Broads for some new leaf springs, driveshafts and Kenlow fan, there being a further ú3000 plus worth of receipts in the documents file. The 16ins diameter chrome wires are new and were shod with Dunlop Road Speeds only last year. The owner declares that a new speedo was fitted by Broads in 2003 and therefore the cumulative mileage for the car had risen when entered to 65,233, which he believes to be the genuine total. Ten year's worth of old MOTs have been retained with the MOT test only freshly passed, the current certificate valid until April of next year. Clearly working well, this XK has only recently completed a trouble-free Welsh run.

Sellers description:
1958 Jaguar XK150 FHC

This original UK specification Jaguar XK150 FHC was manufactured on the 19th March 1958. The car was sold new by Henlys, London and the car has remained in its original colour since. This fabulous driving XK holds a high level of originality, in particularly the lovely red leather trim.

On first glance, the XK presents very well with a nice paint finish and very smart chrome. On closer inspection, there is evidence that the car is an older restoration likely to have been painted in the late 80's, early 90's. Minor blemishes can be noticed, particularly around front sidelights as so often the case with these older restorations. The body is very straight with good panel work and doors that close nicely. The Jaguar does present well and is further enhanced by an excellent set of chrome wire wheels, very smart chrome bumpers and a beautifully detailed and highly polished engine bay area. The interior holds what appears to be lovely original red leather and excellent carpets to match a smart headlining, dashboard and door cards.

On road test TSV 417 is outstanding with excellent performance. The history file documents extensive work carried out by Guy Broad from 2001 to 2004. This work included a full engine rebuild with all invoices and some photographs present. Invoices from this period total over £16,000 and the result of this is evident upon driving the car.

Overall a very charming XK that is ideal for regular or long distance use.

Price: £37,995

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
