One owner matching numbers original car exactly as it was delivered new in August 1955 by Pacific Light Cars of Portland Oregon. It has been in Portland all its life and beautifully cared for by its prominent local owner. Having done just 80,600 miles in the past 52 years this magnificent Dove Grey drophead was seldom if ever driven in the rain which accounts for its rust free condition. Just 600 miles were logged after a thorough mechanical freshening prior to my friend Frank passing at age 85 early this year. The car is still on its original Oregon title and 1955 license plates. Here are a few details: Chassis number S817559. Engine number G3144-8S Color is Dove Grey we believe, however Jaguar listed four greys in '55. Paint is 70 percent original and a little thin in places as you might guess. Chrome is in terrific condition given its age. The bumper uprights have recently been straightened and replated. Interior is dark red and seats are as soft and supple as when renewed several years ago in the original pattern to a high standard. Door panels and carpets were also replaced at that time. All tools are there including road tools, even the original sponge pad under the jack. Original owners manual with serial numbers penciled in at delivery and complete shop manual with XK140 supplement. The following work was done in the past three or so years: Five new chrome wire wheels mounted with Vredestein V rated 185 by 16 radials. New knockoffs as well and comes with the original five painted wheels with Firestone white walls.Ten wheels and tires total. Complete new stainless exhaust system and recoated headers. All interior wood veneer refinished by the best specialist at a cost of $4000. New correct padded and lined professionally installed. The original black canvas boot has shrunk and does not fit perfectly. Carburetors stripped and rebuilt including starting carb. Starts hot or cold "on the button". Auxiliary fan fitted. Not sure why as the car has run cool even in traffic since I've been driving it. Hottest weather to come however. New top and bottom timing chains and crank seals just installed. Oil pressure is 55# at 2500 rpm hot and 30 at idle. New brakes all around. New ball joints and sway bar bushings New U joints and even new rear spring gaiters. The highly rated local specialists sold this 80 year old everything they could think of! New reduction starter. Flywheel resurfaced and new clutch. Transmission seals replaced. Distributor rebuilt. New cam cover gaskets. Overdrive solenoid replaced (Overdrive woks beautifully) Air horn installed and new rubber wherever needed. All glass is original and unmarked. Battery box just replaced as corrosion had eated away a corner of the floor. New battery. This is a unique opportunity to acquire a great car with an unbroken provenance and honestly earned beautiful patina. It needs to be seen and any inspection is invited. As a knowledgable friend recently said, "someone should take this girl to a JCNA concours and show them what a real XK looked like! It drives like new.

All the wood was re-done, and every surface of the interior was renewed. Eventually this pampered Jaguar was returned to the United States, and now resides in our collection. Carrying Chassis Number S 817559 DN, this outstanding 1955 Jaguar XK140 SE Drophead Coupe is a compelling top-of-the-line example of Jaguar's legendary sports models of the mid-1950s. Built on 14 June 1955, this original left-hand drive XK140 SE was factory-finished in Pearl Grey over Red-piped Grey leather upholstery, complemented by a French Grey convertible top. Confirmed by the accompanying Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust (JDHT) certificate, this XK140 SE was factory-fitted with the desirable, high-performance engine, including the "C" type cylinder head and larger carburetors, numbered G 3144-8S, paired to a Laycock overdrive-equipped 4-speed manual transmission. Next, it was dispatched from the Jaguar factory on 30 June 1955 and shipped to the United States via importer Charles Hornburg in Los Angeles, California.

Subsequently, this Jaguar is understood to have been under the long-term care of an Oregon-based owner from 1956-2009 and it was a largely original, unrestored car when that owner sold it on. In 2015, it was sent to the Jaguar specialists at JD Classics in the UK, where it received a sympathetic cosmetic restoration, including a refinish in its original paint color and fitting of new Red upholstery. Following completion, the Jaguar returned to the USA and enjoyed proper collector care. The vehicle remains true to its JDHT certificate and retains its original, numbers-matching engine block and "C" type cylinder head. Documents include restoration records from JD Classics, prior ownership papers, a FIVA Passport (issued in 2015), and a reproduction owner's handbook. An original roadside jack and wheel hammer are also included.
