Current bid US $18,120 reserve not met 7 bids, 6 days left in auction. Seller seraphinoff123, 40k miles.

Sellers description:
On offer through the Seven Gables Motor Garage Ltd : One of the best, driver quality, "on chassis" restorations available of an XK140 Fixed Head Coupe - 1956 Jaguar XK140 SE Fixed Head Coupe - All matching numbers, California origin, with C-Type cylinder head and automatic gearbox. 1956 JAGUAR XK140 SE - FIXED HEAD COUPE - BEAUTIFUL DRIVER QUALITY RESTORATION

Shown here on Ebay, representing the local Detroit area owner, I am presenting this absolutely gorgeous, numbers matching, XK140 MC FHC. What a beautiful looking and driving motor-car! This Jaguar has tremendous appeal with its near perfect Black exterior along with its unmarked Biscuit interior. Distributed from the Hornburg Jaguar dealership in Los Angeles, California in July 1956, it was restored in the not too distant past and few miles have been put on it since. I photographed this motor-car just last week and I can tell you that the paint looks as good in real life as it does in the photos, and black is a color that is the most difficult to paint properly. There is hardly a flaw in the bodywork and it is done in a most professional manner. It is not a perfect Pebble Beach entry but rather a really, really nice driver that will bring a great deal of pleasure to the new owner.

Additional description from above auction:
MECHANICAL CONDITION
The engine starts instantly at the touch of the starter button and has a glorious sound from the factory issued dual exhausts. The Borg Warner automatic gearbox works well and in fact everything works except the clock. Under the bonnet, the all matching numbers C-Type engine looks fantastic and sounds right. The present owner, prior to owning this Jaguar, had never heard one of these wonderful straight six engines running and I chuckled to myself when he reported to me that when he first heard it start up he said it gave him goosebumps. This was coming from a fellow that is more familiar with Mustangs than Jaguars! The present owner has driven it at speed whereas I have only puttered around the neighborhood but the report from him is that it is tight and rattle free.

COSMETIC APPEARANCE
This Jaguar was restored on the chassis rather than being taken completely apart and therefore we believe that the body has never been off the car. However, I am sure that the doors, bonnet and boot lid were taken off for the paint work. Unusually, the doors close, Rolls Royce like, with the slightest push of a finger. The hinges on these heavy doors were not the best design and its a miracle that they do not as a result sag. One of the doors has a misalignment in the gaps but it can probably be rectified by a competent body man. It looks like all of the exterior chrome has been re-plated and it looks like new with the exception of a small chrome chip in the grille.

The interior is nearly like new with Biscuit leather and matching wool carpets. The burl walnut wood dash and cappings are in fine condition but not perfect.

The underside has been detailed and is clean and tidy. At the time of the photography session, I did not have access to a floor jack so the lower resolution images of the underside have been supplied by the owner. Even with the lower resolution images one can clearly see a very respectable undercarriage. As I had mentioned before, the vehicle was distributed from Hornburg Jaguar in California and although I would like to say that it spent all of its years in the dry, high desert of California, I can't. I can see some rust pits on the chassis that was treated and painted over, not rust holes of course, but I want to make clear that we really do not know where it spent its years after it left California. Can I say that all of the sheet metal is original? No I cannot. I will say this though I have seen and owned many of these XK's and this is one that I would like to see parked in the Seven Gables stable!

HISTORY AND OWNER PROVENANCE
The history of this Jaguar as we know it, aside from its origins in California, is that it was in Ontario, Canada for a time and the present owner purchased it from that owner. The Canadian owner purchased it from the owner that restored it. I wish I could say more, we all like The Story, but thats all we know about it. The very good news is that it started life in California and that has perhaps contributed to its exceptional condition. On the title and Jaguar Heritage certificate images below you will see a BW suffix after the chassis number. This designates the Borg Warner automatic gearbox. You will also notice that the brass data plate under the bonnet does not have the BW suffix after the chassis number. It is a reproduction data plate and for some reason the restorer did not put the BW suffix at the end of the chassis number. Perhaps the original data plate was lost during the restoration. I have heard of the data plates being lost during a restoration and sometimes they actually fall off from the electrolytic reaction between the four aluminum rivets and the steel body. I communicate regularly with one of the worlds foremost XK historians in Australia and promptly sent him photos of the numbers. We feel that the chassis number, C-Type cylinder head and block have the properly peculiar Coventry factory hand stampings but the data plate is clearly a reproduction. Having several of these XKs myself and being knowledgable about them, I personally would love dearly to own this XK140 and the data plate issue does not spook me in the least.

HISTORY AND OWNER PROVENANCE
The history of this Jaguar as I know it, aside from it's origins in California, is that it was in Ontario, Canada for a time, then purchased by the previous owner in Detroit, Michigan for a short sale, wherein I then purchased the car. The Canadian owner had purchased it from the owner that restored it. The very good news is that it started life in California and that has perhaps contributed to its exceptional condition. On the title and Jaguar Heritage certificate images you will see a BW suffix after the chassis number. This designates the Borg Warner automatic gearbox. This is a really nice FHC and the reserve set for this motor-car is a fair amount below its actual value.
