This car is currently listed on the BaT auction site. This is a rough driver but is somewhat unique in that it is equipped with the Borg Warner automatic trans. How many XK-140s were manufactured with the BW transmission?? As such they must be fairly rare. Thanks for anyone's input on this question. J.B. Richards,

This 1956 Jaguar XK140 fixed head coupe was reportedly purchased by the late owner in Washington State in 1967 and is said to have spent a number of years in Minnesota prior to being brought to Maine in 2008. Finished in black over red leather, the car is powered by a numbers-matching 3.4-liter inline-six that was reportedly rebuilt in the 1990s and paired with a Borg-Warner DG250 automatic transmission. Additional features include a Pioneer CD stereo, Dayton wire wheels, Wilwood front disc brakes, and Lucas front fog lamps. Service in November 2020 consisted of a gearbox rebuild, an oil change, and chassis lubrication. This XK140 is now being offered by the seller on behalf of the late owner’s widow with service records and documentation since 1967, associated literature, owner’s and workshop manuals, spare parts, and Maine registration.
Originally finished in Pearl Grey, the exterior was repainted black around 2013 and LED taillights have been installed. The seller notes missing door seals as well as panel alignment issues, a hole at the top of the driver-side inner fender covered with a fiberglass patch, cracks throughout the body, pitting and corrosion on the brightwork, and corrosion above the rear wheel arches. The windshield seal is reportedly in need of replacement, and an uninstalled spare inner fender panels will accompany the vehicle.
The polished Dayton wire wheels are secured with two-eared knockoff spinners and mounted with older Firestone tires that the seller reports are in need of replacement. Braking is through Wilwood front discs with rear drums, and a full-size spare is found in the trunk. The suspension is said to have been overhauled in 2018 with replacement shocks, front torsion bars, rear leaf springs, ball joints, and steering joints. The removed front brake assemblies along with an uninstalled wire wheel are included in the sale.
The cabin is trimmed in red leather with matching door panels and replacement carpets that show staining. Amenities include a Pioneer CD stereo wired to a speaker mounted atop the dash, a USB port, locking glovebox, and a dash-mounted rear-view mirror. The headliner is missing, the rear seat leather shows signs of fading and cracking, and areas of peeling wood veneer and previous repairs are visible in the gallery. Spare interior panels and carpeting as well as uninstalled B-pillar trim will accompany the vehicle.
A black four-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of a woodgrain dashboard that houses a suite of centrally-mounted Smiths instrumentation including a reverse-sweep 6k-rpm tachometer, a 140-mph speedometer, and auxiliary gauges for amperage, fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows just under 14k miles, though total mileage is unknown. A spare coolant temperature and oil pressure combination gauge is included in the sale.
The 3.4-liter inline-six was reportedly rebuilt in 1998 and features dual overhead camshafts along with twin SU carburetors. An electronic distributor has been installed, and the seller reports that the removed unit is included. Corrosion on the battery box is noted by the seller. An oil change was performed in November 2020.
Engine block stamping number G6897-8S matches the number stamped on the cylinder head as well as the chassis identification plate as seen in the gallery.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Borg-Warner DG250 automatic transmission that was reportedly rebuilt in November 2020. The chassis is also said to have been lubricated at that time.
