This is a Special Car! This 1956 Jaguar XJ40 Drop Head Coupe underwent a professional frame-off restoration in 1994. Later that year it won "Best of Show" among the 3,000 entrants at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Auto Fair. Documents of this pedigree along with pictures of the restoration will accompany the car. This is a Drop Head Coupe, but when it was restored, it was outfitted with a custom, removable hardtop that easily clips on and off. The car enjoys a rare automatic transmission and a Jag 4.2 Litre engine. Among the upgrades are re-engineered electrics, chrome wires, no-lead valves, a certified authentic leather interior by GW Bartlett Company, show-quality Primrose yellow exterior and upgraded front disc brakes from an XJ150. The engine and transmission have been maintained by NASCAR engine builder Jenkins & Jenkins.

Price: $79,000

CAr again at Hemmings

www.hemmings.com/classifieds/cars-for-sale/jaguar/xk-140/2364000.html

Interior: Bartlett Black Leather

This particular XK 140 is a Special Car! I have owned it for over 20 years and have driven it sparingly to keep it exercised. The car is beautiful. In fact, I have never taken it out in the rain. Truth be known, it's probably because I don't relish re-polishing those wire wheels! This 1956 Drop Head Coupe underwent a professional frame-off restoration in 1994. Later that year it won "Best of Show" among the 3,000 entrants at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Auto Fair. Documents of this pedigree along with pictures of the restoration will accompany the car. I know the history of this vehicle since the restoration and it has been driven less than 10,000 miles since it was restored. Car has always been garaged. Car runs beautifully and is a real show stopper. This is a Drop Head Coupe, but when it was restored, it was outfitted with a custom, removable hardtop that easily clips on and off. The custom hardtop, when installed, looks nearly identical to the Fixed Head Coupe model, so with this particular car you get both looks. Note pictures, attached. Restoration also included engine and transmission upgrade, with car now sporting spirited 4.2 Litre Jaguar engine with rare automatic transmission. Recent work by Jenkins includes total master cylinder and brake rebuild. Car runs like a scalded dog and is a “driver” in show quality. Tires and brakes are new.

My wife and I married 6 years ago and the car was a prominent fixture in our departure from the church. We are now approaching retirement and are downsizing our home and don't have room for all our toys. Hate to let this beauty go, but someone is about to get an excellent vehicle that will bring smiles to your soul every time you go for a spin. This is an investor-collector quality vehicle, but we have chosen to price it as a "driver" so that somebody can enjoy it as we have. We are located in the Charlotte, North Carolina area and will gladly pick serious buyers up at Douglas International Airport to demonstrate the car. This is a solid, beautifully restored 140.

Price: $75,000

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
