This 1956 Jaguar XK140 MC roadster was initially distributed through Charles H. Hornburg, Jr., Inc. of Los Angeles, California, and was purchased by the seller in 1968 near Sacramento, California. A multi-year refurbishment began in 1994 with work that involved refinishing the car in red over beige leather upholstery and rebuilding the 3.4-liter inline-six, which is mated to a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a beige soft top, 16″ wire wheels, disc brakes, an auxiliary electric cooling fan, Lucas driving lights, lap belts, and adjustable seats. This XK140 OTS is now offered in Oregon with side curtains, a tonneau cover, a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, service records from current ownership, and a clean Oregon title in the seller’s name.
The car left the factory finished in Birch Grey and was repainted in Signal Red by Brian Moore Restorations of Gold River, California, in 2006. The beige convertible top was replaced and the chrome bumpers were replated during the refurbishment. Additional equipment includes a split windshield, Lucas driving lights, bright trim, and dual exhaust outlets.
Chrome-finished 16″ wire wheels are mounted with 6.00–16 Michelin Pilote X tires. Disc brakes were installed as part of the refurbishment.
The refreshed interior features Biscuit leather upholstery from BAS, Ltd., of Blaine, Washington, along with complementary door panels and carpeting. Additional interior appointments include lap belts, door-panel storage pockets, a cabin heater, a dash-mounted rearview mirror, and a passenger-side grab bar.
The four-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of replacement Smiths instrumentation consisting of a reverse-sweep 6k-rpm tachometer, a 140-mph speedometer, and an ammeter alongside gauges for oil pressure, water temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer has been replaced and shows 1,100 miles; approximately 6k miles have been added under current ownership.
The rebuilt 3.4-liter inline-six featured dual SU carburetors from the factory for a rating of 190 horsepower and 207 lb-ft of torque. An auxiliary engine-cooling fan has been installed, and the car’s wiring was replaced during the refurbishment. The starter and solenoid were rebuilt in 2018.
The engine stamping and cylinder head stamping do not match.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The seller states that the overdrive does not work.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate shows initial distribution through Hornbug in Los Angeles and lists factory colors, chassis and body numbers, and a production date of December 1, 1955.
