This 1955 Jaguar XK140 MC roadster was built on May 18, 1955 and distributed to Los Angeles via Hornburg Jaguar. The car was refurbished in the mid-1990s and went on to win a Best of Class award from the North American Jaguar Concours d’Elegance in October 2002 and again in 2019 at the Pittsburgh Jaguar Club Concours, along with a number of other achievements over the years. It is finished in black over gray leather and is powered by a replacement 3.4-liter inline-six equipped with a C-type cylinder head and paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Features include a removable black soft top, side curtains, 16″ wire wheels, front disc brakes, Lucas fog lights, and an adjustable steering column and seats. This XK140 was purchased by the seller in 2017 and is now offered with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, prior awards, the owner’s manual, service records, a tool kit, spare parts, a car cover, and a Pennsylvania title in the seller’s name, listing it as a 1956 model.
Finished from the factory in Birch Gray, the car has been repainted black and features a removable black soft top, side curtains, a split windshield, Lucas fog lights, bright trim, dual exhaust outlets, and chrome bumpers. The wiper motor was rebuilt in 2019 and a replacement tonneau cover was fabricated in 2023. A tow hook has been added to aide in loading the car into a trailer.
The 16″ wire wheels are mounted with Vredestein Sprint Classic tires, and a spare is stored under the trunk floor. Front disc brakes have been added, and the brake system was overhauled in 2019. The ball joints were also replaced that year. The removed drum brakes accompany the vehicle.
The adjustable seats are trimmed in gray leather with black piping, and interior appointments include a cabin heater, a defroster, and door storage pockets.
The four-spoke steering wheel sits on an adjustable column ahead of Smiths instrumentation consisting of a reverse-sweep 6k-rpm tachometer, a 140-mph speedometer, and an ammeter alongside gauges for oil pressure, water temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 68k miles, approximately 1,500 of which were added under current ownership. The speedometer and ammeter were rebuilt in 2019.
The replacement 3.4-liter inline-six was installed some time ago and features a C-type cylinder head along with dual SU carburetors. The seller states that the carburetors were rebuilt and the spark plugs and wires replaced in May 2024. Work in 2019 involved resealing the engine and replacing the radiator cooling fan, the fuel lines, and electrical wiring.
Cylinder head stamping G3532-8S is a corresponding number listed on the Heritage Trust certificate.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission, which was reportedly rebuilt in 2019. The seller notes that a replacement clutch was also installed at that time.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate lists identification numbers and shows that the car was dispatched on June 10, 1955 to Los Angeles via Hornburg.
The Pennsylvania title carries an “Antique Vehicle” brand.
