Seen on Artcurial Auction Sale catalog 2012, July 7 at Le Mans Classic Motor Show in Le Mans (France).

Lot 116
1955 JAGUAR XK 140 ROADSTER
French title
Chassis n° S-811303

Catalog description reads:
- A true sports car in evening dress
- An example with prestigious past, fitted with " C " cylinder head
- Superb presentation

The black livery of this 1955 roadster complements perfectly the leather interior which has a patina enhancing its claret red colour. At the start of the 1980s, the car enjoyed a top-level restoration by the American specialist Terry Larson, from Los Angeles. After this, it belonged to M. Junot, a former member of the Monegasque Princely family, who later sold it to Claude Leguezec. The latter, a connoisseur, was so impressed by the standard of restoration that he went to the US to meet Terry Larson, where he bought an E-Type and an XK 120.
In 1987, the car won the concours d'état at the Circuit des Remparts in Angoulême. The first prize was the body weight of the driver in bottles of cognac ! A cylinder head from Demaeyers in Belgium was fitted, and the original, which Leguezec has confirmed is a type C head with stage 2 upgrade, will be supplied with the car. Recent side screens and tonneau cover have been crafted in superb black fabric, lined in a beige that matches the hood. A kilometric odometer has been installed, and the car has recently been serviced by the Juan Auto garage in Cannes. Presented in perfectly preserved condition, it is clear that its earlier restoration was carried out to the highest standards.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
