    Ebay item 11/3/11
    cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1955-Jaguar-XK140MC-Roadster-Low-Miles-Great-History-Stu ...
Car has a buy it now price of $98,900 for 19 days.

    Sellers description:
This 1955 Jaguar XK140 MC Roadster is finished in Pacific Blue exterior with grey leather. This car has a great history and interesting documentation going back to the original shipping document from Jaguar Cars LTD in Coventry, England. The shipping document was issued on December 28th, 1954. The car was shipped from the Gladstone Dock # 2 NE in Liverpool and bound for New York aboard the Steamer "American Press" closing May 1, 1955. According to the early records we have on the car it was manufactured on December 17, 1954 and shipped to The New York USA distributor dealer Max Hoffman at that time. The vital numbers according to the documentation records furnished by Jaguar Cars Limited state that the chassis number is S 810514, the engine number is G 1720-8S, gearbox number is JL 26574, body number is F 10524, and the paint color Pacific Blue. Our careful examination of the car has resulted in our pleasure in knowing that this is indeed a numbers matching correct Jaguar XK140 MC or as the Europeans call it XK140 SE OTS roadster. As you may recall, the XK140 MC version is the higher horsepower version of the XK140 with 210 horsepower and dual exhausts, C Type cylinder head, fog lights and wire wheels. Continuing with the history of the car it seems the car made it's way directly from Mr Hoffman the New York Dealer/Distributor to the authorized Jaguar dealer Auto Imports LTD here in Indianapolis where it was sold to the Hulman family. This would be the Tony Hulman family, owners of the world famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway and home of the Indy 500. Mr. Hulman was known to be a lover of Jaguar sportscars and even provided one to his friend Clark Gable while Clark was in town filming the movie "To Please A Lady". The car next found it's way to Terre Haute, Indiana where the Hulman family owned and still runs a business. The car was sold to a Mr. Howard Potter in Terre Haute who later sold it to a lady named Betty Lark in May of 1968 also of Terre Haute, Indiana. It was in June of 1971 that Ms. Lark sold the car to one of our long term customers here in suburban Indianapolis where the car has remained to this day. We are pleased to offer the car with just 25,134 original miles and in great looking and running condition. The car received a light cosmetic restoration in October of 1976 which consisted of repainting the exterior and some interior upholstery work including a new convertible top. The car has been carefully preserved and maintained since them with only light maintenance being required over the years to preserve the originality and mechanical integrity of the car. This Jaguar is an important find for any true Jaguar lover and should only go to someone who appreciates the background of this historic automobile. It is really a great and rare find. It has it's original manuals, tools and even has what appears to me to be the original Dunlop spare tire in the trunk. I have driven the car and it is a joy to hear the dual exhaust note from the XK140MC engine. This is a Jaguar not to be missed.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
