This 1955 Jaguar XK140 roadster is said to have been purchased new by the current owner’s uncle and underwent a multi-year refurbishment around 15 years ago. Work included a repaint in red, a reupholstered tan interior, and a rebuild of the numbers-matching 3.4-liter inline-six. Additional equipment includes a four-speed manual transmission, twin SU carburetors, polished exhaust outlets, driving lamps, knock-off wire wheels, an electric radiator fan, and wind wings. This XK140 is now offered by the seller on behalf of her father with refurbishment records, a parts catalogue, a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, and a clean California title in the name of the family trust.
The car was originally finished in Battleship Grey and was repainted its current shade of red following the completion of bodywork in 2006. Brightwork was re-chromed at this time and exterior features include a tan convertible top, bumper-mounted driving lamps, grille badges, and wind wings.
Chrome wire wheels wear two-eared knockoffs and are mounted with Columbia Deluxe whitewall tires. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel drum brakes.
Originally trimmed in red, the interior has been refinished in tan upholstery with matching carpeting and door panels. Equipment includes a chrome-finished parking brake handle, a dash-mounted rearview mirror, a passenger grab handle, and map pockets in both doors.
A four-spoke steering wheel fronts a central instrument panel that consists of a 140-mph speedometer, a reverse-sweep 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset analog clock, and gauges for amperage, fuel level, water temperature, and oil pressure. The five-digit odometer is inoperable and currently shows 98k miles, though total mileage is unknown. The seller also notes the fuel gauge is in need of repair.
The 3.4-liter inline-six features double overhead camshafts and twin SU carburetors. The engine was rebuilt in 2004 by Autobahn Auto Service in Lake Forest, California and has had an electric cooling fan installed. An oil change was performed in March 2021, the battery shut-off switch was replaced, and the fuel pump was replaced in April 2021.
Engine block stamping G1730-8S matches the number listed on the data plate and on the Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate lists the factory colors, serial numbers, and a manufacture date of December 16, 1954.
The car is titled using engine number G17308S.
