This 1955 Jaguar XK140 SE roadster was acquired in 2000 by its current owners, who have since used it to participate in rallies across several Western US states. The car is finished in white over a red leather interior, and power comes from a numbers-matching 3.4-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual gearbox. Specifications for the Special Equipment XK included a C-type cylinder head, driving lamps, dual exhausts, and wire wheels. Body, suspension, and brake work was performed under current ownership along with engine and transmission rebuilds and other service. This XK140 is offered on consignment by the selling dealer with a black soft top and side curtains, service manuals, a period roadside tool kit, service records from 2000 to present, and a clean Wyoming title.

This example underwent repairs to its floors, footwells, rocker panels, battery box mounts, chassis braces, latch pillar assemblies, and fender supports in 2005 before a repaint in its current white was performed by Antique Auto Restoration of Seaside, California.

Chrome 16″ knock-off wire wheels wear Vredestein Sprint Classic tires, while a painted spare is reportedly mounted beneath the trunk floor. New rear shocks and U-joints were fitted in 2008, and a brake fluid flush was performed in 2016 along with installation of new axle seals and ball joints. A 2018 service included replacement of the brake master cylinder and wheel bearings as well as inspection of the wheel cylinders.

The interior was retrimmed in red leather with matching carpets and door panels in June 2000, and was also fitted with lap belts. Dynamat sound deadener, new carpets, and a replacement wiring harness were installed in 2005. Matching side curtains are included in the sale.

A four-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of a reverse-sweep tachometer, and a replacement 140-mph speedometer was reportedly installed at 68k miles in October 2001. Just under 21k miles are shown on the five-digit odometer, 10k of which are said to have been added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.

The twin-cam 3.4-liter XK inline-six was rated at 190 horsepower when new, and was rebuilt by Antique Auto Restoration in March 2003 with replacement JE pistons and rings, wrist pins, bearings, valves and springs, and a chain tensioner set as well as overhauls of the generator, starter, and radiator. A new fuel pump and PerTronix distributor were installed in 2008, the oil pan gasket and spark plugs were replaced in 2018, an oil line was changed in 2019, and a carburetor service was performed in February 2020.

Cylinder head stamping G1526–8S matches the engine block stamp as well as the number on the chassis ID plate.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission that was rebuilt in 2003 along with a refinishing of the flywheel and repairs to the clutch shaft and linkage.

Shop manuals are included in the sale, and service records from 2000 to present

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
