This 1954 Jaguar XK140 is a left-hand-drive OTS model that was delivered new to the Los Angeles, California distributor in December 1954. It was sold in April 1955 to the first owner, a commander at the naval base in Coronado, California. The car was acquired by the seller in 2003 after a body-on restoration was performed by the previous owner, which included a repaint in green, an interior refurbishment, and replacement of the 3.4-liter DOHC straight-six and 4-speed manual gearbox. The seller sourced correct carburetors, intake manifolds, and exterior chrome fittings, and has serviced the car with new wiring, fuel lines, and brakes. This XK140 is now offered with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, records dating back to 2003, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.
16″ chrome wire wheels feature knock-off hubs and wear Goodyear wide-whitewall tires. Unlike the drophead model, the open two seater features a removal windshield with chrome trim. The interior was refurbished by the previous owner with seats from an XK150 upholstered in tan leather. The factory 4-spoke steering wheel and Smiths instruments remain in place. The seller has added fewer than 1,000 miles during his 16 years of ownership, and true chassis mileage is unknown.
The 3.4L DOHC straight-six was sourced from a Jaguar sedan from the same period and installed by the previous owner. It is mated to a 4-speed manual transmission. The seller had correct SU carburetors and XK140 intake manifolds installed after purchase, though he notes that this engine does not have a Special Equipment cylinder head, which this car was originally delivered with. The seller has also replaced the wiring throughout the car and added new fuel lines.
Additional work included a rebuild of the master brake cylinder and the installation of new brake cylinders and lines. The engine oil and filter were changed in December 2018, and again in March 2019. The coolant was recently changed to Evans waterless coolant, and the transmission and rear end fluids were topped off in March 2019.
The included Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate shows the original serial numbers, colors, build date, and first owner history. Service records dating back to 2003 also come with the car, documenting work performed under current ownership. The car placed 2nd in class at the 2017 Hillsborough Concours D’Elegance, and has also won best of show and best of class awards at local events in Northern California.
